It really depends on what you're after. If its just "vocals", then you can't beat the Headers, they are totally outrageous.
If its power, then start with the Focus pack (will still give a good vocal as well)....The car will still feel much more powerful and will then give you the opportunity to move up to the "Serious" once you feel the extra power is no longer stimulating. If you went straight to the Serious, once you've gotton used to it, yoou've not really got much left to go for other than forced induction (or you could start doing some serious internal component mods)

The focus pac includes the headers too I think? Therefore I would go with that plus the suspension as the serious pack includes the 1.8 roller rockers (standard is 1.7) which aren't much good to anyone lol! After that Forced induction is the next step and possibly some AP racing brakes.
You guys forget heads and cam is a worth while mod.
Stock no mods is usually around 230rwkw and maybe 250rwkw for ls2.
With heads and cam you can break the 300rwkw with supporting mods.
A very well done setup will make 350rwkw in an LS1.
Sure over that then you are talking forced induction.. or larger engines.
But dont dismiss cam only installs for a good bit of extra power up to around 270rwkw without breaking the bank.
You might find you will even give a few low boost superchargers a run for their money!
Guys in oz run 11.4x sec quarters with small cams. Oztrack for one.
Plus you get a nice cam sound

Just to back-up,
What ringram says have a read of this site. Dan has about done it all with his CV8 (Monaro) and also helped develop EFI-Live so definately a worthwhile read here:

Looked at and heard some modified cars - definately getting the bug. My 04 VXR is currently standard.
Question is though should I go for
a) Wortec Focus + AVO
b) Wortec Serious
Whats the consensus out there????

I would add the LSV supercharger for £3k as it increases power to >500bhp
I dont think either of the above would get close to that
the vxr has upgraded decent quality shockers and matched springs so i wouldnt change them on this model

I'd love to go for a cam and maybe heads. The sound alone with a lumpy cam is probably worth it, but throw in the gains you quote and it looks even better. The thing that puts me off is that I don't know what's involved in getting a tune done with an unknown cam. Or even if there is anyone in the UK that offers such a custom tune. I can wield a spanner but tuning is a step too far.
BTW I think this sounds great.
Where are you located Jimb0?
There are sponsors who can do cams. I did mine myself with efilive with excellent results. If you were local Id be up for giving you a hand with the cam swap for interests sake as well as the tuning side. Ive done a few things like swapping brake disks, installing rip shifter, swapping injectors, porting throttle body etc. So should be semi useful on that side and have done a few tunes including my 282/286 cam. I even swapped a cam over in a 400 chev I used to own in NZ. Flick me a PM if you are interested.

04 VXR brakes are same as standard 05 model cv8 brakes iirc. Are the 05 and later model of VXR brakes really that much of an upgrade for an 04 VXR?
05 VXR brakes are a marked improvement over 04 VXR ones. IMHO
Tell me more about about the interims. What does it involve?
(sigh - another variable)
