Don't worry, not going to tell you who one, just in case you've not seen it yet, but what a close finish!

I'll try and catch the highlights again at 2pm Motors TV (Sky Ch 413).

Sad news. There are copies of the crash doing the rounds, but I won't post it here. TBH, whilst it was a big smash, it didn't look like it would be fatal

The following is from LS1GTO.com

Driver Mark Porter dies
October 08, 2006 07:45pm

RACE driver Mark Porter died today after he suffered massive injuries in a crash at Mount Panorama on Friday while preparing for the Bathurst 1000.

Porter died at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney today after suffering serious head and chest injuries in a 180kph crash with David Clark during a second tier V8 race at the Bathurst 1000 meeting.

The Gold Coast based New Zealander leaves behind his wife Adrienne and one-year-old son Flynn.

He was 31.

His parents had flown in from New Zealand and were at his bedside.

Porter's family issued a statement tonight announcing his death "with untold sadness".

"The family wishes to convey their heartfelt appreciation for the efforts of the medical crews who have been involved all the way through - at the track, at the Bathurst Base Hospital and at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and all of those who transported Mark between those facilities," they said.

"They gave Mark every chance at life, for which we thank them.

"The family also expresses their appreciation of the efforts of the officials of V8 Supercars Australia, all of whom have done their utmost to support all those involved in this tragedy."

Clark, 28, regained consciousness this morning and is breathing unaided after he was taken to Nepean Hospital in Penrith in a critical condition on Friday.

His Optima Sport team said the Adelaide father of three is recovering well from a punctured right lung and has fractures to his pelvis, right arm and leg, while tests have not revealed any significant spinal or head injuries.

Clark woke from his induced coma with his wife Leah, eight-month-old daughter Reese and parents by his bedside.

While climbing the mountain circuit on the 12th lap of the 14 lap development race on Friday, Porter suddenly spun his Holden Commodore sideways, stalled and was left stranded in the middle of the track in an area blinded to oncoming traffic.

Clark sent his Ford Falcon sideways in an attempt to escape collision but crashed directly into Porter's driver's side door at around 180kph.

Ambulance crews needed cutting equipment to free Porter through the passenger's door and immediately commenced CPR on the track.

He was taken by ambulance to Bathurst Base Hospital and was airlifted later that day to RPA.

V8 Supercars Australia said they would launch a thorough investigation into the crash.

A great race but will be overshadowed by too many unhappy notes....

1. Brocky
2. Porter
3. Radisich (Anyone know how he is.... he was airlifted out)
4. A Ford win...

BTW: Did anyone hear me get a mention on Motors TV

If that is Paul Ridisich he is a top Kiwi driver who has done well in many touring car style formulas - in the 80's (and think early 90's) he was a top BTCC driver and won it I think?

Seem to remember him driving Mondeos and perhaps Honda Accords??

Grrrrrr...

With all the safety cars I Sky+'ed it but it stopped on Lap 160/161. How annoying!

I'd better go off and find out the results.

I still can't believe it. I've been watching a bit here and a bit there when my wife will let me and have watched every hour of the race up until lap 160.

Don't tell me - the last lap was the best! I can't believe it, (again). Shaping up to be a cracker.

I'd better watch it live next year to make sure the same doesn't happen. Or perhaps I could record 3 hours of teleshopping from 8am onwards in case it overruns.

I know. I should learn. Sporting events alway overrun. Now found the results on the net and hadn't changed since the restart on lap 159 so I don't think I missed much. I was worried when TT said that he had watched the last 40 minutes after the Grand Prix which made me think it might overrun. Still he texted this to me the next day so it was too late by then.

RADISICH OK AFTER HUGE CRASH

More to follow later next week

Team Kiwi Racing driver Paul Radisich will be out of action for the remainder of the V8 Supercar season. He has suffered a broken sternum and broken ankle as a result of a high speed accident at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama on Sunday. Radisich hit a tyre wall at more than 200kph after attempting to avoid another car.

Team Kiwi Racing owner David John said Radisich also suffered windpipe bruising and was having some difficulty breathing as a result of the injuries but would make a full recovery.

Radisich was expected to be discharged from hospital in Sydney in the next 48 hours and would return back to Melbourne with his wife Patricia.

However he will not return to racing this season, although is keen to get back behind the driver’s wheel as soon as possible.

Mr John said the relatively minor nature of the injuries was a testament to the car design and the safety measures including the HANs safety device. He also praised the swift intervention of the emergency crews.

Mr John said no decision had been made on a replacement driver.
