Just wanted to check the fuel tank size, I've run the computer down to 10 miles to go and still only got 60 litres in, thought I read the tank is 70 litres, is that right? I hate filling before I'm running on fumes.
Thanks
Gareth

The most I've had to put in thus far is around 63 litres, and that's with the Distance left reading 10 miles, so I'm guessing there's still a good 30 miles or so left in her when she gets that low, but I'm not too willing to find out for myself

Mind you....letting a tank run that dry increases the risk of picking up any cr4p in the bottom of the tank...

I'd have thought just general sloshing around would cause that anyway long before a tank gets low wouldn't it?
Hence the fuel filters?

I am a run on fumes man myself and am always disappointed when only 60 litres goes in. I once got 57 litres in a 55 litre tank!

I've run a couple of tanks of BP Ultimate and can def see an improvment in performance, so the mpg goes out of the window

For a car in a "high state of tune" I would avoid letting the fuel get that low. All it would take is for the pump to suck up some air and the engine would run lean and "detonation" may occur causing a top end meltdown weeping

I definately get better performance and mpg with BP Ultimate than Shell version.

Mine beeps at me when it thinks there's 30 miles to go and I normally fill up ASAP but have never put more than about 55l in there so I think it estimates a tad on the safe side

I have on one occassion literally limped into the petrol station just as the miles remaining hit 0!!!! Not recommended but what can you do when you're out driving round the west coast of Scotland and there isnt a petrol station open for miles.

hey i've noticed my gts gets more mpg with BP more than the others, on full it goes to 360 mls and on tesco 340 of course it depends on who wants to play with ya on a straight stretch at the time.then that all goes t*ts up

well I figure that the on board computer can only ever register 240 as the max distance to empty. I drove from Swindon to Oldham last night and it stayed at 240 to empty all the way.

That one trip has confirmed this car is bloody good on the motorway to me and returned 28mpg combined. Cruise was set at 85mph

Mmm, long motorway hauls really improve the average. I did a stint to Newcastle and back at the end of last month and it averaged quite close to 30mpg which is great and not much worse than my old car. I find it doesn't really make a difference if you have in it 5th or 6th at motorway speeds either. Since 6th is pretty much useless for overtaking unless you've got 2000 rpm on the dial I now only really consider slotting 6th when cruising over 100mph - which rarely happens.
Driving to work through town is shocking for mpg though (but then I was under no illusions that it wouldn't be)

On the evening drive home to Scotland after Silverstone, having reset the trip, I easily got 30 mpg displaying on the dash by the time I reached Carlisle and I like giving it some biglaugh Took a moby piccy of readout but quality not good enough to show any doubters.
BTW couldn't give a t_ss if I only got 20mpg yes
Finally couldn't resist a blast through the Clyde Tunnel in Glasgow before reaching home. Moby video is cr_p also censored

I'll bring the camera along one day to at work and follow you through the tunnel if you want - get a much better video that way.
