I'm betting he hates it and trots out the normal drivel......live rear axle this, poor body control that, American cars and corners etc etc.

I know these will be valid points, but sometimes a car is sooooooooo much more than the sum of it's parts. 50 grand on a Porsche Caymen or a Mustang? Mustang every time for me....and I ain't kidding. Although I'd probably save 20 grand and buy a boggo VXR

I could be wrong, of course, he may love it...... driving

yes, thats using the useful conversion factor but like for like you could argue that £25k in the UK is $25k in the USA.

You could also argue that an 18k Focus ST is a $33650 car in the US.

who is arguing, at £25k for the GT500 it is the cheapest 500bhp car on a global basis

i think the VXR probably drives and performs better but the GT500 looks better

At last, might be a Fifth Gear worth watching!

I am a little surprised though at their statement "That means that this big 1650kg coupe can hit 0-62mph in under five seconds, reach speeds of over 180mph and will do 75mph in first. ".

Did you change the gearing around a little? rofl

I'm not arguing but it isnt 500bhp for 25k is it? How much to get one in this country? (Please dont tell me it is actually 25k or I'll be out with my cash card tomorrow!)

have to say though that whilst American cars do tend to look nice get inside them and it is totally different. Used to work over there and had many childhood dreams smashed.

That said, last one I had was the 5.4 Ford f350 and that wasnt a let down

Bearing in mind this is a BRITISH car show I don't give a damn if you could get one IN THE US for cheaper than any other 500bhp monster.

The fact is that it would also be subject to Import Duty, VAT and anything else the taxman wants to throw at us. By the time this is worked out and shipping, SVA(?) etc is added on then it would be nowhere near £25k.

I think they said £40k all in to import one, including duty, vat (paid on top of the duty!), shipping and SVA. Even then a VXR500 is better value because for 40k you can get various nice extras like the AP brakes. The GT500 does have Brembo 4 pots up front but I doubt they can match the APs for power and fade resistance.

5th gear estimated £40k self import, I think I've seen it advertised with US importers for £50k, but I'm sure you could easily cut this as £10k for administration seems very high.

That £10k could be down to the fact that GT500s were/are going for way over list price as the demand is high.
