Just been out in the car for a blast, get home turn the ignition off and both radiator cooling fans running, waited five minutes, still running. Bonnet up, another five minutes, still running. Ignition on or off and still running. I'm sure even when in 36 degrees (on holiday) the fans turn off when the engine is turned off!

Unplugged them both, plugged them back in, still running, pulled both fuses (10 and 11 in the engine bay, still running. Put the fuses back, unplugged the fans, then pulled both high speed and low speed relays and when I put the plugs back in the fans have stopped.

So what now, will the fans run every again, should I change both relays? is it the control module (guess there must be one). Where the relays sticking? but I took the large fuses out, doh.

Next time I take it out for a drive I will take 2 new fuses and two new relays (have the whole lot from a monaro that was in a breakers) and watch the temp gauge like a hawk.

It's got me because surely the fuse (11) would remove all the feed from the switched relay contacts regardless of it be energised????

Caspy, you didn't do any mods to the cooling last week that make it run after the ignition is off? long shot but have to ask.

Anybody had this?

Cheers, will do when I get a chance, might wait for it to happen again but be armed with both relays so I can find out which one it is.

Must admit - did 1000 miles in S.Ireland last week - today I get in and the fans start as soon as engine warms up and won't turn off. Haven't tried fiddlin' with it, or trying the 'switch off, switch on again' thing...will tomorrow though! Would be interested to see if it's just a relay(s) change...

Looks like fuse 5 also feeds the fan/fans, will have to wait for it to happen again, why don't things happen when you can see what you are doing.

Not sure if this is the same but......

My girlfriends Focus had the fans on constantly. Apparently the fan is on permanently when the aircon is running. Even if the aircon is switched off, if you switch to 'demist' it turns the aircon on automatically and thus the fan starts up and is permanently on..... took me 2 days of fault finding to work it out

This probably doesn't help but had a similar problems some time back on my 95 Camaro - transpired a sensor for something (can't remember what - I did say it was sometime back!) had gone and the fans running was part of a "get you home" mode. If I turned the engine off and restarted, the problem disappeared for about 3 minutes or so before the fans cut back in

Never thought of that - my a/c was on demist now I come to think of it...however, it'll have to wait 'til I'm next home (Dec) for me to try that fix...but thanks anyway Demo Man!
