Did you see 5th gear tonight?

also fantastic piece of journo on the speed humps
The result of their exhaustive research, slow down when going over them
They were testing how to go over them smoothly and wanted to dispell the theory of speeding up over them. Yet they didnt test slowing down then gently accelerating over them to transfer the weight off the engine....

Those type25's and versions of them are devastatingly fast. It was a result (in part) of the original type 25 that Subaru moved to the 2.5 for the current generation of Impreza'a etc.
Take any measure you care in terms of performance times and they will see off pretty much most things (up to 175 or so) including Monaro's - a bhp/ton over 300 more than a 997Turbo!
Interestingly at Bedford earlier this year the first two cars I saw go bang were two new STI's one was seriously modded.
Still been beaten bad with an ugly stick and every key scraping idiot will have a go at it.

No doubt about it. That Scooby was a very rapid motor...
BUT... One thing that was missing that all of us rear wheel drive Monaro and Mustang experience - What was it? ...FUN!
The other week, Plato was full of smiles when driving the (slower!) Mustang GT500. You could tell he was having a really good time behind the wheel.
Last night driving the Scooby, I did not see, not once, a huge grin on his face for driving the Scooby.
I actually thought he looked at bit disinterested. Yes, he knew the car was fast... but the car seemed to do nothing else for him (in my opinion).
They can keep their Scooby... I'd rather have my slower Mustang (or a Monaro) over one of those any day!

Zektor, I know what you mean. The car appeals on the techno-wizardary front, it's damned fast and a Monaro or Mustang probably wouldn't see which way it went on a wet and winding road. I'll even accept the fact it's butt ugly as it has that rallying heritage.
As an everyday supercar, it'd be hard to beat. But then if I was to have a Impreza for every day, I'd go for one of the older estate jobbies and with a less extreme spec. All the better to enjoy the Monaro/Mustang at the weekend
As performance cars go, the Scoobies and Monaro/Mustangs are chalk and cheese. And I like cheese

You've got drive one to realise how good the Japs are at building and setting up these types of motors. You can take a scooby turbo straight out of the showroom and give it sh*t like no other car , they handle, perform and last like no other high performance vehicle you can buy. Sure the monaro's have great power but they'll never keep up with the likes of the scooby in real life A road driving.

Wasn't to keen on the latest shape but this 1 is nice

I beg to differ
Notice the Monaro and STi have exactly the same time: www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps.shtml And I bet I know which one was more fun, made a better noise and had a ride comfort that won't smash your nether regions! Oh and then there is the matter of looks, but we wont get into that because the number of similies you can use when describing the Scooby is staggering!

Cannot agree....sorry
I had a Subaru STi and whilst it was quick...God it was boring.
A Monaro is no where near as quick in the corners, but, the standard brakes on a STi are crap and in the real world (not just 0-60) the monaro is quicker in a straight line - as the speeds get higher the gap gets bigger. To really take advantage of the higher cornering ability of an STi - the Subaru driver would have to drive like a complete arse considering that we are talking about roads where visability is not always good to say the least - so in the real world there is nothing between the cars - nor on the track
Put that in your pipe and puff
