I got my 36 mph in a 30 zone camera ticket nearly a year ago & followed the PACE letter process from peppipoo and it timed out - no fine paid, no court appearance - it works!
Sent the first letter saying "yup, was me but seeing as I have not been cautioned yr NIP is a pile of doodoo" (but DO NOT SIGN the NIP), they send you back another letter saying how your argument is superseded by some other case (standard response to test yr metal apparently) and then I sent back another saying "wot a load of cowdroppings - I'm still gonna argue it" and never heard anything ever again. Another idea that I'm not sure may work in UK (I got off a camera ticket in Oz with this one - camera was behind the vehicle) is to say - yup, that's my car & but I can't remember if it was me or my mate driving at the time, please send me the photo to prove who was driving - innocent until proven guilty etc etc - got a reply 1 month later saying "sorry, we are unable to prove who was driving - case dismissed"

These days the scammers are less fazed with the PACE WS approach... Most will just ignore the PACE bit and take your statement as an admission you were driving the car. Positive future outcomes may require you to go to appeal to get local magistrate decisions overturned.
