after seeing Nige had been quoted around 1100 to replace discs/pads on vxr setup - what is the cost on the AP's? If every time you swap the parts it costs so much it might prove a prohibitive upgrade

I mean ongoing costs, so like in 20,000 miles or whatever their life is how much will a replacement be.... or is that the replacement costs? yikes

Ooopps....

But I would certainly hope the disks will last a lot longer than 20,000 miles....

was just an example But when nige said the otehr day about 1100 notes for VXR brakes I thought he was on about a replacement kit for the CV8 but he said it ws the price he had been quoted to replace the discs/pads

IS the AP that expensive on consumables?

High performance pads are £100 for front, £50 for rear.

Dont think these are the official AP spec. though.

That's a bit of a fatuous comment - may as well say stay at home 'cos people die in car accidents all the time.

VXR brakes are made by PBR yes?
You can import and entire system inc pads from Australia for £1100 - I know I looked into it.

ah so that was the full price for everything nige?

BO55, disagree with sentiments on the brakes as the standard ones are more than good enough for the road

Go for the performance pads from Monkfish. 10% of the price for 90% of the performance.

I don't know but I'd guess that you could probably save a bit by no buying them from Vauxhall themselves. There must be an independant PBR brake part reseller in the UK.

Maybe, maybe not.

For a stock CV8 without a great deal of braking they are probably fine. Once a few mods are on IMHO AP's are the way to go (and I have used VXR brakes).

ok because I may have just dropped a few IQ points since this morning can we do it in a scenario?

Imagine the scene, a driver, me, takes his car into the dealers. It has the AP kit fitted and after a couple of years of use the pads and discs all need replacing. What cost for this replacement (NOT A NEW KIT INSTALL/UPGRADE FROM STANDARD?)

Imagine the same above if I had VXR discs/pads fitted currently and I wasnt looking to upgrade in anyway at all just wanted to get some new replacement pads/discs?

cheers

Not answering your question but,

My standard CV8 brake disks were fried by the previous owner, (fried as in warped). AP's fitted aprox 14k ago and have survived one track day and a bit of abuse and look to me (the non mechanic) brand new.

Think I would add to your question how long are these disks supposed to last with normal/hard usage. Am guessing by the size of the VXR disks that the AP's would last twice as long (at least). Has anyone yet replaced pads?

For info : the guys at Dastek quoted me two prices for AP kits that they'd normally charge for most other cars - 1300 for the larger disc kit and 1600 for the smaller ones (dont ask). These are based on using the touring car spec kits. Mark @ LSV explained the problem is the centre hub design is licenced for exclusive use by HSV so cant readily be obtained. Hence the reason why we have to pay for the custom kits supplied by Wortec, LSV etc If they were able to supply the touring car spec kits then the disc replacement cost would come way way down as all you'd have to replace is the section of the disc in contact with the pad - it simply unbolts from the centre hub and you bolt on a replacement. I suspect the replacement cost of the AP discs we currently get supplied with will be considerable because they are a custom item.

cheers nige, just needed it in my head

what a bummer about the touring car license, that means for a simple replacement you have to pay the earth? I wonder if the Brembo kit from the 350z could fit or maybe there are others out there that could (talking normal cv8 here)
