Monaro 6.0 Twin Turbo
Discussion
CAN ANYBODY HELP? I AM HAVING A TWIN APS TURBO FITTED BY WRC TECH AT SILVERSTONE. I CAN'T FIND ANYONE ELSE WHO HAS HAD A TWIN TURBO FITTED TO A SIX LITRE O5 VXR. ANY USER INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I OPTED FOR THE TURBO RATHER THAN THE SUPERCHARGER NOT FOR THE INSTANT 200 PLUS BHP AT 9.5 PSI, BUT BECAUSE THE TORQUE IS MORE THAN DOUBLE THE CARS ORIGINAL QUOTED FIGURE, COMPARED WITH THE SUPERCHARGERS INCREASE. I CAN ALSO GO FURTHER IF I WANT TO AS THE THE TURBO KIT IS APPARENTLY GOOD FOR 900 BHP BY TURNING UP THE BOOST, PROVIDING THE REST OF THE ENGINE IS STRENGTHENED FIRST. WRC TECH SEEM VERY KEEN AND ENTHUSIASTIC BUT IT'S ALWAYS GOOD TO TALK TO AN EXISTING OWNER. "BY THE WAY DID I MENTION I WILL BE PICKING IT UP THIS FRIDAY"?
wortec have a development single turbo project with many miles run but personally I do not know of anyone else with turbo applications, bet you are looking forward to Friday, you will have fun getting that amount of power to the tarmac - do report back on your findings, dyno print out would be nice too.
Outside of internal strengthening have you done anything about your clutch & brakes, OEM clutch will fry eventually and my experience of turbo's once spooled up is you might need to stop quickly!
I see you are in Hants, anywhere near Pompey (Southsea resident)?

3 twin turbo kits I've seen on other forums - one in the rear wheel arches - meant to be very efficient at keeping temps down, one low down at floor level - cool but risky if you belt them off a speedbump, and one where they sit either side of the top of the engine. One thing they all had in common was that they were very pricey - approaching 10k and thats before you start adding in things like uprated clutch, brakes, engine internals, drivetrain.......be interesting to hear what the final result is in power gain, if getting it tested on rolling road make sure and get a before and after run for comparison. (and for all our sakes just quote rwhp
)
)THANKS FOR GETTING BACK SO QUICK! NICE TO KNOW OTHER PEOPLE ARE MORE INTERESTED IN THEIR CARS THAN WORK. BRAKES ARE STD FOR THE 05' VXR BUT ARE APPARENTLY SLIGHTLY UPRATED FROM THE 04' WHEN I WENT TO THE NURBURGRING 3 MONTHS AGO WITH MY MATE AND HIS 05' 5.7, TRYING TO BEAT TOP GEAR!, MY PEDAL WENT ROCK HARD AND ONLY CAME BACK AFTER A HALF MILE OF NO BRAKING, "VERY EXCITING!". MY DISCS DID NOT GO BLUE WITH HEAT SO WHEN I GO BACK IN THE SUMMER I AM FITTING SOME HARDER PADS TO REDUCE THE FADE. MY MATE HAD TO REPLACE ALL HIS, FRONT AND REAR DUE TO STEERING WHEEL AND BRAKE JUDDER. THANK GOD FOR MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY! I LIVE AND WORK IN BASINGSTOKE. WILL KEEP IN TOUCH WITH DYNO FIGURES. GOT TO GO AS WORK IN A GARAGE RECEPTION AND BUSY TIME IS 4.30 ON, THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INFO SO FAR, KEEP IT COMING!

Easy fella. Using capitals is the forum equivalent of SHOUTING VERY LOUDLY.
Just as a tip, it makes reading your posts much more difficult (to me at least) to read so possibly less people will bother.
Edited for grumpiness

SORRY MATE! Didn't mean to shout at ya! i've only just learned to switch the computer on, i thought i was doing rather well my first day in school and all. My excuse is as follows: The package we use on our five reception computers is all in cap locks, and to "shout" it is either underlined or in bold. Thats the best excuse i can come up with today, now i'm going to crawl away in shame and study W.R.C./A.P.S.turbo tech web site as the most important thing in my life at the moment, picking up my car on friday!

you are joking surely, the turbos work off the manifolds and therefore need to be under the bonnet next to the engine? no way on earth that you could have turbos in the rear wheel arches unless you are taking about a 911

Squires Turbo Systems.
They are not efficient by any means, but they do work.
There are some very fast rear mount runners in the US. Vettes, Camaros, GTO ( Monaro's ) and others all use them to good effect. And the kits are cheap, and quite easy to pass stringent emissions laws in the US, as you can fit the kits, without touching any emissions related equipment.
long manifold = lag
have seen loads of twin and single turbo set ups - not too convinced by the twin set up - twice the cost of turbos and not much gained?

post up a link....still dont understand how they feed air in to the manifold effectively from the back of the car

a quick search wouldnt hurt

With pipework, no different to a front mount, except the plumbing is longer.
Given there is at least one Corvette running the quarter in the 7's, I dont think you can say they dont work.

poorly chosen turbocharger = lag.
badly mapped turbo engine = lag
Yes a short manifold is better, but STS systems are cheap. And they work. They may not be perfect, but no setup is.
When I first heard about them, I thought it was a joke. But there are hundreds of them out there, that would embarass all of your cars in terms of performance.
So laugh all you want, these guys will have the last laugh !!!
