Had a test drive...
Discussion
Hi,
I've been lurking on these forums for a while now, and I finally got round to taking one of these beasts for a test drive on Sunday as they're starting to get into my price range. I kind of expected it, but I now just absolutely have to have one! I drove an 04 CV8 during a torrential storm so couldn't really boot it - but even with a careful right foot still a mindblowing experience !
I have a couple of questions though:
I know the gearbox is 'industrial' in character, but this one seemed pretty rough especially in 3rd with lots of vibration coming through. Is it anything to be concerned about? The car had only done 14000 miles.
The central locking was also not working, is this a common problem? Again, surprised to find something like that wrong with a car 2.5 years old, although obviously still fixable under warranty.
Are there any other problems I need to look out for?
I'm going to see if I can drive a couple more to get comparisons, only minor things really compared to the overall experience of the car
Just got to find myself a good'un - if anyone's got a black (
) CV8 they want to exchange for £15k let me know!
cheers,
zym

Hi M8 welcome to the community. I have not heard about central locking being an issue should be fixed under warrantee. The gear linkage is the problem you are encountering; this is nothing to worry about the addition of a Rip Shifter will cut out the noise and gives a shorter more direct shift. The cars are getting to be a performance bargain now!
Hi Mate, welcome to our little corner of the net!
I have an 04 CV8 from new, and its a great car. Only probs Ive had is duff reversing sensor system. I have upgraded the brakes to 6pot AP racing, and of course I have had the full wortec treatment, decat, headers, remap, CAI, and louder pipes etc. Straight out of the box, great car let down only by bad brakes. Gear shift is fine on mine, they get better as you drive them! The engines are LS1 from Corvette, and are pretty well indestructible so long as you change the oil and filter regularly. I also have a C5 Vette, same engine, and no real issues. I will probably keep my (Blue - fastest!) Monaro til spring, then either sell it or go for the supercharger. Not sure, considering various options at the moment. Anyway, just pick up a tidy 04, and enjoy the hell out of it. You wont regret it. I personally went for the CV8 rather than the VXR simply cos I like the clean understated look, and also they are much more comfortable if you have to do lots of long journeys like I do. If you have any probs or need advice, theres lots of very knowledgeable folk on here who can advise you better than I can !
Cheers, V8D
