Hi guy's, am I the happiest man on the planet, I've been following this forum for longer than I care to remember now, and finally yesterday I became the proud new owner of an 04MY VXR in silver.

I've been looking for a long time to find the perfect car, this one is No. hopefully not unlucky 13!! Its had two previous owners comes with a full service history and 24k on the clock.

I understand the first owner who was oxfordshire based still owns a RO' so may be a site member, if so I loved to hear from you to get some more info on the car, apparently first registered as V9 VXR.

I was at the VW meet a few weeks back, which is quite local to me, saw all the Monaro's there, but didn't get the chance to chat with anyone, so hopefully I'll put that straight at a meet soon.

Maybe even tommorrow night at VW, if I can get away for a couple of hour's and anyones still invited ?

For info. the cars totally standard, but a Vortec will be comimg my way once Christmas is out of the way, in the mean time my insurance company have insisted on me having a tracker fitted. I'm having a Cobra Track Q installed tomorrow which come with a free road angel for £399 all in, which sounds ok.

Well I rambling now so, outside its pooring with rain a bit slippy, and I've got about twenty mile's Monaro driving experience...............Perfect I'm off for a blast!!

Cheers Ringram,

I had the chance of an 05MY for not alot more cash, but the 04 really suits me as I need the boot space.

Definatly gonna get the standard set of upgrades as soon as my wallets contents grow back. Exhaust, intake and remap and maybe a Ripshifter, although prior to Calibra ownership (which I still have if anyone wants to buy it!) I had a Porsche 968, and compared to that the shift is already very good.

I'd be interest in a diff ratio change aswell possibly, but need to do some more research first.

Thanks Benno,
I probably should have given them a call first, but I'm halfway through my insurance year so would loose a bit of no claims build up. I was also planning on getting a road angel anyway as I managed to get 3 points through the post yesterday 57 in a 50! Typical on the same day I got the new car.

I'll definatly call A plan at renewal though.

Hi Boyce
Was the car from Milton Keynes? I looked at two silver 04 VXRs and in the end bought Benno's, the MK car was the other. Also had a 968 which I have to say was the best car I've ever owned.
My advice would be to sort the suspension and brakes before getting carried away with the performance mods, I drove Alan's car at the weekend which has been sorted and it's like chalk and cheese compared to the standard set up.

Hi Gareth,

My car was originally supplied new from a dealer in Wales, then twice supplied (including to me) by a dealer in Oxfordshire.

OLYC, the Calibra is a SE9 last of the line V6 model, very high spec for its day, and if anyone is in the market for one, its has FSH, 11 months MOT 5 months tax, and four new tyres oh and 83k on the clock.

hmm I'd love to add a V6 Calibra to the collection - what colour is it? If the right answer it could be enough to swing it with she who must be obeyed.

Welcome to the fold....remember the 04 VXR had a shorter final drive at 3.73 than any of the other cars 04 or 05.

Would there really be much gain out of going from a 3.73 to 3.9 diff?

Probably not... try the 4.11
You might well find with more power you dont need to mess with the gearing.
Taller gears are good for economy.
I used to have a camaro with 3.23:1 and that still hung out sideways with the best of them!

Hi Well Fans,

In case your interested in the Calibra, it's the SE9 model all of which were in Flame Red, which with plenty of elbow grease, is still red as oppose to pink!!

Would look great in your collection i'm sure.

There is a significant difference between 3.73 and 3.91 diff ratios. I changed mine at the beginning of the year from 3.73 to 3.91 you get two advantages. Firstly the acceleration is improved significantly and secondly 6th gear is more usable. There is good acceleration in 6th where as before I found myself changing down I don't need to any more!
