I am truly amazed at the lack of interest in the UK in these cars (and now at such low prices)...Just what is it that stops "Mr Average UK Man" from being a real bloke. Woofters the lot of 'em...

I'm guessing since having a 5.7 or 6.0 litre engine is so out of the ordinary (so many people I know think 2.0 is a large engine) that they imagine it using 3x as much fuel as their Mondeo or Golf and are put off. In reality though they aren't much worse than a hot hatch. I was seriously considering a new Focus ST but when I heard from a friend that the his car was getting around 20mpg average I thought better of it - I might aswell get a proper rwd V8 coupe! Much more performance, more fun, more comfort and similar running costs, cheaper and hopefully stronger residuals (I'm hoping! I did buy it really cheap).
Since getting the car I've averaged 19mpg which is pretty good considering the amount of town driving I do. On a long run I've got close to 30mpg which is only a little bit worse than my previous car with a whole 4.0l less of engine.

Is the VXR the same as our HSV GTO (as opposed to the standard Holden CV8)?
List price is $78,990 (converts to £31,700)

Chris on a bike! We pay WAY more than you guys for English cars, and you can buy an Australian car cheaper than we can!! And that is BEFORE you take into account the average wages; (from another thread) the UK price ( £26,995) is just over 1 years 'average wage', the Aust price is 1.5years... Something is not right there...

That doesn't add up; the VXR is the Monaro (IINM) which has no VE replacement (yet) so I would have expected the last VZ to have held it's value?
That is the reason I am considering buying a CV8 instead of a R8 sedan for similar money. The R8 is a better car, but I am thinking the CV8 would hold it's value better? Am I wrong?

Most people I speak to cant believe I get 22-24mpg... and when you conceder my friends standard Cupra R turbo thing does 28mpg it almost sounds economical!

Still, most people are intimidated by the big engine, big car, big wheels and the big power. I think it is more of an acquired taste than a boring german box you could get for the same money.

I bought a new 335i Turbo last week as I got offered circa £4k off, seems discounting is rife even on new models at the moment.

If the £26,995 price had been communicated last week, it would have made the decision very difficult and I might now be the owner of a third Monaro...... a 6L VXR is a stonking car for the money!!

Yep, the VXR is the equiv of the HSV GTO. This £27k price appears to be from 2 dealers only, the list price being nearly £36k.

Does that mean any extra VXR500's will be £31,995?
