10K Service intervals

How far over the 10k miles can you safely go without invalidating any warranty? 200 miles? 300? Also why is the interval so long compared to the Oz 10K kms. ?

I think 10% is the accepted norm, 'tis on most cars & bikes I've had anyway.

Don't the answer to the 2nd part but could be something to do with less extremes of temperatures etc maybe?
