I shall be needing a new set of boots soon for my STD CV8 and I know that tyres have been discussed here many times be for. My local fitter can do me a good deal on a set of Avon ZZ3's (£450-00 all in) but I've not seen a mention of them on the forum.

Has anyone had any experience of these on a Monaro, good or bad? teacher

Cant speak for the monaro but i'v had them on my Focus RS. There fine in the dry (like most new types of tyre) But absolutely shocking on wet or slippery roads. I wouldnt reccomend Avons for a second. Pirrelli pzero's are the best gripping tyre that i'v found. There a tad noisy and one of the most costly tyres but they are your connection to the tarmac at the end of the day. I'v had pretty good experiences with Falken tyres if your looking for a cheap tyre.

Got the old Mitchelin Pilot Sports on the rears and they seem quite good in all weathers

Funny that. I was not at all impressed with the Mitchelins on my 4x4 Turbo Calibra in the wet where as I did have the Avon ZZ3's on there for a while just before it was stolen and was very impressed.

I know the Calibra is a completely different setup which is why I asked if anyone had tried them on the Monaro.

I'd vote for the F1's as well - shop about and you'll get the four corners for around the same price as the Avons if we're talking 18" tyres.

F1s the only tyres I rate currently, although Yokahama AVS close.
