Should this happen?

I parked on the verge last night, trying to get off it the wheel on the soft stuff just span up with no drive to the wheel on the road, I thought a LSD should prevent this. (the vxr does have one doesn't it?)

What RPM? It should allow some slip anyway. You might need to up the torque to the LSD unit. (eg) Try 4400RPM
Else you might have the wrong mix of diff oil and friction modfier in there.... or worse a failed LSD unit.

I guess I should check the LSD before it's out of warranty, any idea how I can do it? Just got to thinking, should the traction control have prevented wheelspin?

how to test a LSD

1 do a tirght turn in a car park 10 mph should be about right 1st gear

2 floor it
working LSD both wheels spin

faulty LSD 1 wheel spins

but it sounds like the LSD is not working

bad advice unless the car park is completely empty with no nasty curbs, do it in a straight line with a clear road and nothing either side of you, if it goes dead straight then start with getting the oil changed, at say greens. The way the weather is it ain't going to be hard to test. Just come home from London in the car and had losts of sideways moments, it's well slippery and nice out there.

Mine had the wrong oil in it and could still manage a drift occasionally if trying it low speed with full lock. The test I did was in the dry, full throttle in first and did a rolling burnout (50 yards), no sideways movement at all and only one black line.

If it is the oil then once it has been changed take care for a while as the car will behave completely different when it breaks traction.

Revs should not matter that much as the warmer mine gets the more the diff locks up and will break traction slightly when pulling out of junctions at low speed if the road is damp with hardly any throttle.

I suspect mine isn't working quite as well as it should. I suspect the incorrect oil is in there so I will probably change it soon.
I'm happy to do it myself if someone can tell me what oil and modifier I need.

I remember a thread not so long ago that suggested the replacement type/grade/manufacturer oil. Anyone have it to hand?

ISTR is was Redline something or other or Castol SAF-XJ 75w-140 but then loads of people chipped in say "you don't wanna do that you wanna do this!"

Basically I just want to make it work properly so I'm happy to take advice from people in the know

I just went out to pick up some wine and on the way back tried to get the arse out on some slow bends but it justs seems to spin the inside rear. I does sometimes work so I'm guessing it's a lube rather than nackered diff issue (it's only done 22k).

Greens are a bit far away for me, otherwise I'd probably go there. Do Monkfish have the magic oil?

Roger does! Redline heavy shock with some fric modifier will probably sort it for you.
