Pics of HSV VE interior
Discussion
What do you expect, its a general motors sedan, not a Merc, Audi, Jag etc. It retails for about £18K as the base SS 6L v8 in Oz. You are not going to get £50K+ parts in it. Consider it on a par with the Vectra. In fact in Oz they consider the vectra better built than the commodore!
Whats good about it is it has a solid body, with much improved braking and handling. Plus the all important 6L of V8 rear wheel drive power.
Where else can you get a platform with as many mods and performance for the price?
Thats the bottom line. bhp per £.
If you want quality then you need to pay for it. Not to say that the VE doesnt also represent excellent quality for the money.

OH Dear, gonna have to agree with SJC on this one interior plastics quality looks bad, gone down hill from monaro, even plastics on GTSR are equal to those pics and thats 5years old, so much for updating!!
Agree, some nasty looking plastics there and tbh a lot of the stuff hasn't changed one bit.
Still has the power socket in the cubby hole where it's next to bloody useless, cup holders perfectly placed to be knocked by ones arm, still the same crap place for the window switches...nah, looks pants tbh.

I will lay money that it is priced around £40k when brought over here in fact I challenge Vauxhall to prove me wrong.
The plastics are far better in the flesh (or PPVC slush moulding) . Some parts better than a 5 (we have an X5 and about to get a 535) some parts worse. Overall though much improved fit / finish and quality.
As for the drive I'd say the gearbox is not as good as the 5 but steering , brakes , ride and handling are easily on par and in some areas better. They really have done a good job on the engineering side and the HSV drivetrain is fantastic.
Bits I agree that don;t work - cup holders and window switch locations. However I think you can always find something to criticise on any car and there are so many good bits on the car that I'll forgive it

If thats the case unfortunately I can't see it selling in the numbers that we all hope (as indeed like the Monaro). At that price level, as good as the car probably is,to entice people out of their euroboxes they (especially the badge snobs) want to see "showroom" appeal and I'm not sure it's gonna have enough of it.At around £34K it might have a bit of a chance to get people to trade up from Scoobys,Evos etc., but at 40 grand you're not going to find buyers from the BMW/Merc/Audi brigade. I sincerely hope I'm wrong 'cos I'm sure it'll be a stonking drivers car for us enthusiasts but at the £40K level Joe Public becomes Joseph Public and looks for diferent things.
Pure speculation on my part here, but I would guess you are getting the HSV GTS and the SS-V. SS-V as mentioned by ringram would be about 18,000/20,000 pounds equivalent. Working backwards, a Monaro was 30,000 pounds. The SS-V should be cheaper. Over here a Monaro was about $56 to $60k and an SS-V can be bought for $47k to $50k. My guess mid to high 20's over there. The Calais V is a similar car to the SS-V for those not into wings and dresses!
The other car, the HSV GTS, which has more or less followed the UK naming now as HSV have essentially moved the names around a bit. The new R8 is pretty close in specification to the old Clubsport whilst the new GTS is similar to the old R8! The GTS is probably where the 40,000 pounds comes from. The GTS was always regarded as the super-duper car. It is rumoured there will be something bigger above it.
You mean a Ute/pick-up?
Ute is rumoured to be next off the drawing board (YAY!!!!) with the Wagon/Estate in tow. The other 2 door, don't know, but I think a Camaro has been seen somewhere in OZ!

I like it all - except the number of doors.

And remember Nige, it looks like a Skoda Octavia!!!!!
You really should speak your mind, instead of sitting on the fence.
