that make you really understand why these cars are so good. Of course we, as owners, are biased as to why our cars are great but tonights drive back from Castle Cary just went to cement how good they are.

About 2 or 3 times a month I go to my friends in Castle Cary and get to drive some really nice roads but tonight was mile after mile of grins and smiles. I wasn't looning about but the roads were open, if wet, but I just enjoyed every minute. The surge from the car just keeps pulling - everything just hooks up.

After my accident I got a nice pay out which meant I could have gone for something like an AMV8 but I knew that was just wasting money really on something like a car but I've had my fair share of tests in some supposedly better class cars. I took a 350z over a new m3 for example and that was a fantastic car, a great package and like the monaro cannot be beaten for what it is at the price. Comparing the two is impossible as they are both so different, the Zed did make me grin but the monaro makes me feel happy. Money well spent, it is just such a superb car.

The drive and car compelled me to write this, sorry

Am I right in saying that Nissan have now released a superduper 350z - sort of VXR-ish?

no

there was a supercharged nissan UK (not official nissan) that went to goodwood but no plans mentioned on the forums, also they are getting the new vq (i think) which has about 300bhp - as used in the GT4, as standard. There is talk of a further engine for 2007/8 using the USA engine but not seen anything as such. That was one of the reasons I sold when I did.

Too many changes that were not really major upgrades etc but killed residuals, I sold at the right time. I think tampering with something so short into model life is bad, the monaro appart got a fairly big one with the 6.0 but that wasnt too bad. I think companies should do like bmw and stick to a model for a good few years before any of the line gets a major upgrade. How often did an m series get changed so short into its life?

I think my feelings sum it up nicely (at least for me!) that the zed was a great car and made me smile but it never really gave me the pure feeling the monaro does but then its a totally different car. I'm just thankful I have the huge boot as other wise I'd potentially not be as happy with the total package I have.

The zed is quick, no doubt about it, but the torque in the monaro and the sound cannot be matched. What I didnt say last night was when I entered cary, a small town really, my friend new I was there even with her double glazed windows shut and I was at the other side of town. Now call me a childish boy racer but that is officially COOL!

smiler.

OK, you're a childish boy racer

Just kidding, my latest trick is setting off car alarms in multi-storey car parks as I drive past. Not childish in itself, but trying to best the previous total is (5 over 7 levels). Well it was a 'Toys R Us' car park!!

back in 95 I was driving a 1.6 capri laser with a sports exhaust and manifold with twin webbers, prod deducted 10 of the cars 70 ponies. But then alarms were cheaper too and I could get a resonance that would set them off as I drove by at 30mph in 3rd. Didnt think it was still possible, what rpm/gear do you use

I've set alarms off with the stock exhaust on my VXR - no gas, just trundling.

As I was telling Bob (well fans) just after new year I spent a day out with Dougie from Total Vauxhall doing a "Scottish Tour" style feature on the 28th December along with Dougie's Cavalier GSI, and 2 of his mates from home in their Astra GSI and Cavalier SRI, obviously I had the 'ro home for the festive period so that was my tool of choice for the day.

With the whole thing going in the mag in the next month or so I can't go into great detail, but lets just say 400 miles of some of the best driving roads around was the tune I was singing to, something that sounds ok until you see that there was no 40mph trundling going on, the limit was 60mph on the winding country roads and we rarely saw 59mph or lower through the corners either, which with them being greasy meant that the 'ro was able to put a grin on not only my face in the captains chair but also the other lads who got to see the back end attempting to beat the front end round some of the corners, great fun and a great day out with a good bunch of lads.

At the end of the day the toll of the 400 miles of sheer driving pleasure took it's toll thankfully only on me as the minute I got in the door the old heartbeat was allowed to return to standing pace and at that I nodded off within seconds of sitting down on the couch back at my mums lol, sheer excitement behind the wheel went up a notch for me as of the 28th Dec
