Possible VXR owner has questions...
Discussion
Hi all,
I am seriously considering a purchase of a VXR Monaro (missed out on the 500's), but have a few questions I'd like to ask owners....
What does it cost to fill up the tank..? Next, on mixed driving, how many miles would you expect to see before any fuel level warnings came up..?
Also, the dealer has made a few enquiries on my behalf, so far with no luck. Is it at all possible to fit a tow bar with single electrics to a Monaro VXR..? I've done a bit of "research" and it appears they may exist on the other side of the world, but with the www, the world is shrinking now and it may be a possible. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on this..?
The cars I'm considering are pre reg'd with circa 50miles, so new in my book and weigh in at £27k-odd, what sort of depreciation am I going to be facing in say two years..? Any idea..?
I'm quite taken by it after looking at one yesterday and I'm trying to line up a drive in one next. My heart (and my wallet a bit too!) seem to be saying Monaro, but my head is dragging me towards a 335i/d.
Towbar is no problem on the German, as is fuel economy, but initial purchase price is high.
Initial purchase price is lower on the Monaro, thus possibly enabling me to pick up a used runabout for cheap, town driving, shopping and possibly towing, but I'd MUCH prefer to tow with the Monaro. Plus, I'd have running costs for two cars.
And the Monaro isn't just for summer weekends, I've got other toys for that, so it will be used regularly.
Any views are very much appreciated and welcomed..!
Cheers,
Nige.

I collected my pre reg VXR ob the Friday before Christmas. Done 1500 miles up to Northwest Scotland and back since then. Up the M5/M6/M74/A9 and then gloriously empty A-roads. 450 miles and sensible motorway speeds and 100 miles at a "brisker" pace gave me an average of 22mpg. Round town more like 12. I'm happy with that!
Thanks for the replies gents and thank you for your honesty regarding the fuel situation. 200miles out of £60 is bearable, but not great for me really. I know my Subaru drinks like a fish (so do my other steeds!), with about 220miles coming from £45 a tankful. Was hoping the monaro's large engine pulling what isn't a heavy car would be around that figure... The head scratching continues....
(ps: Thank you for your kind comments jimb0)

I regularly put £60 in the tank and get 200s to a tank (as low as 180, as high as 310 on a run).
I know a 5.7 is not exactly economic, but a 04 VXR will give you better consumption. Out of a 65L fillup I can squeze 350+ miles with the car flashing VERY low fuel! The cars have a 75L tank btw.
I think it has been said before... lots of short/traffic jam journeys = bad mpg. Long journeys = 24+ mpg.

Anyone that gets 20 or more must be on the back of a trailer. Anyone that gets less than 17 on a full tank is a car thief
I guess I must be a thief who likes to steel cars on trailers!
I get quite a big variation on consumption depending on the types of journeys I do. Ca be as low as 15 and as high as 25. Hi,
I'm another prospective buyer of one of the 05 CV8's knocking about on the market, could someone tell me the approx cost of a service, some of the cars I have seen seem to be coming up to their service interval.
Also Churchill insurance have said that would require a tracker to be fitted before they would insure the car, are these as standard or an extra cost (I've not seen them listed in the cars spec).
Thanks for your help.

Service costs are relatively cheap. My 30K was £220 with a bit of handbrake adjustment bumping it up to that. The trackers are an after fit but there are plenty companies that will insure without one - see FAQ's sticky at top of page. Hope this helps,
Jeff.
