Rubbing noise from front suspension...
Discussion
I noticed a noise from the front while reversing left on full lock yesterday.
It sounded like water going down a pipe, and became louder as the car drove over a dip in the carpark.
Its a pre reg'd VXR as standard with only 700 miles on the clock.
I've had the front wheels off the car and it looks like the inside top edge of the tyres are rubbing against part of the coil spring support cup - it had rubbed the dirt off to reveal the red paint on both sides.
The shape of these cups would appear that this would only be possible with the steering hard over to the left
The tyre pressures are OK
any ideas - is this normal.....
Cheers Neil
Enjoying the car loads, getting excited about some mods.....has anyone converted a 2005 monaro
"petrol tank in the boot" back to 2004 spec.

I've seen this mentioned on another forum before, one of the American ones if I remember rightly and it seems to be a common problem, though I thought they said it was happening whichever way they turned the wheels.

reading that topic suggests a simple alignment fix usually solves the problem. Monaro's are notorious for the alignment being a bit out when they ship from the Holden/HSV factory
Edit: oh and to move petrol tank would mean major rework and giving up the twin outlet exhaust. there's no room at all on the driver side rear on my 04 for an exhaust pipe to pass the petrol tank without serious heat build-up.

standard wheels with pirelli tyres as new- I only got it 2/3 weeks ago.
I can't actualy feel the tyre touching any thing although its close.
Maybe the clean bits were coincidence - or caused by me running my hand around the tyre
when it first made the noise.
The noise did sound very "fluid like" could it have been the power steering on full lock
I want to come and see you guys (monkfish) soon re a sports pac and rip shifter

Indeed, excess negative camber could cause it to rub, but it would be close all the time. The good news is that the camber is adjustable but i'd be surprised if you have this much camber unless its been severely dabbled with.
Needs looking at i suggest. We can do full alignment if required.
It would be good to see you, sport pac etc no problem at all

Just back from a crawl around on the drive with a torch !!
I hadn't realised the coil spring etc all moved with the wheel...duhhh
I can confirm that the tyres do not touch anything on full/any
lock in either direction.
So what was that noise ??
I have also just tried backwards and forwards full lock turns
without any strange noises......
I will have to go back to the same car park tomorrow and try it again.
To monkfish - do you have cars fitted with the cat back system with/without
centre silencers so I could hear what I'm going to get ?
I had an Evo 8 with decat and found that a bit too much(whimp)on a day to day basis
volume wise.
cheers Neil

At the moment, no we don't. Not strictly true as my ute has one on, but it sounds completely different because its got a turbo strapped to it! Totally alters the sound, so would not be representative of the system.
With the silencers in, i very much doubt you will find it tiring or intrusive even on motorway journeys. Without the silencers, some find it too loud to live with- others love it! You get all the neccessary parts when you purchase the system, so it can be swapped over later ir required. Very simple task, no slip joints, all 304 grade stainless and on flanges and olives. We will swap them over for you at no charge if you change your mind.
I could arrange to have a car available if required (just give us a call to let us know when etc,) but it may be easier to come along to the ace cafe. There will be plenty of Wortec exhausts, both silenced and unsilenced in attendance. Some of the guys on here i will demonstrate im sure
