And we have biblical levels of rain. Marvellous.

Will I really get a feel for the VXR or should I find a non-wet day?

I currently have a Porsche 968, which will be the trade-in. Anyone out there know how they will compare (obviously the Porsche is smaller, much less power but astonishing handling).

I had a 968 before my VXR, the VXR is a great effortless long distance car, as standard you will be disappointed with the handling compared to the 968, budget on upgrading suspension and brakes.

Indeed, budget for brakes and suspension. 968's are certainly very agile and will take some beating in the handling department.

A 968 with an LS1? Now theres an idea and not a new one either! Any takers

Sadly not, but looking to do one at some stage. It alters the balance of the car by about 1-2%, well at least in a 944. 968 is a touch lighter, but still pretty much 50/50 weight distribution. Would making a serious fast all round car!
