HOW ARE YA GUYS
Need some help, does anybody know what changes need to be made to an aussie spec Holden Ute VZ SS 06 model in order for it to comply with EU vehicle regulations.I searched all the internet and even called Holden in Australia, asked her e.g what changes were made to holden monaro before it was exported to UK, she couldn't answer me,she said that Vauxhall imported the car as an aussie spec and all the changes were made by Vauxhall in the UK.I,m going back to Australia in Nov so before i import one to greece, i just wanna be sure that it complies,eg emissions, lights etc.

As far as I know it meets the current regs.. Yeah, holden are pretty useless when it comes to finding out that sort of information, and nothing but un-neccessarily frustrating.

There is a bloke who imported a GTO to the states who comes on here sometimes, so might be worth checking with him to see how much hassle he had. All you have to do is put a fog light on the back, and you are away here.. Might be worth importing here first and then going from there.

Not sure about the SS ute specifically, but imported a Landcruiser Sahara from oz last year when i returned to UK. A firm in Avonmouth did the work and have the vehicle testers onsite also (which is kind of handy). Obviously bits are rear fog light (easy) mph speedo (again usually easy by recalibrating existing and apply mph sticker). Any external bits that dont compy with pedestrian impact regs or whatever are taped in foam to pass the test and then put back to normal after. This applied to my ARB bullbar nad Kaymar rear wheel carriers. I had no noise or emmisions issues despite a 3" stainless exhaust and headers on the 4.7l v8.

I think this applies if you have owned the car for 6 months and as such it comes in as a personal import. Not sure if you buy it new to import it though.

if its only the rear foglight its pretty easy,i also know for a fact that the emissions for the ute are EURO 3.I'll just detune the the engine in order to conform to euro 4 here in europe.By owning a vehicle for 6 months prior to importing it or buying it brand new and sending it straight over makes no difference in the import tax you pay in greece. The only good thing is that its a ute and i'll pass it through customs as a commercial vehicle, meaning less tax.The car i,ve always wanted was the monaro(UK spec),only problem is because it's a 6 litre engine,if i was to pay say 25000 pounds to buy it in the UK, customs will charge me roughly another 25000 pounds if not more on import tax(engine to big).Thats why i've chosen the ute. There are a couple being sold in the uk through this site, too bloody expensive,i can buy latest model off the showroom floor in OZ.

You might consider taking it to Andorra (between France and Spain) and registering it as a tourist, pay 2% tax then drive it to Greece, or
buy a 6 month old ss sedan from the middle east for half price and drive it to Greece

I stand to corrected, but the Monaro does not meet full european type approval. Britain has alternative arrangements for lower volume vehicles. Therefore you will not be able to demonstrate compliance because it does not (comply)

I have no knowledge of your local vehicle registration regulations. Note though that a ute also has a six litre engine.

Hurts me to say this as I am an SS fan! But it might be easier on the engine side of things to get a VZ Maloo.
The Maloo has the LS2 which they do know about over there in the UK whereas the SS ute has the fairly exclusive L76 6 litre engine which although it is a mixture of LS2 and others, the Monaro over there never came with.

I had a chat with a car dealer who imports cars from germany, i told him what i wanna do, he told me to give him a VIN number of the the Holden SS ute i want, then he'll check with the Ministry of Transport here in greece to see if the vehicle conforms to EU standards.I,ve got my fingers crossed.I'II keep you posted on the outcome.

I just got a reply from the Ministry of Transport here in greece. They told me that because the car is coming from outside europe it must comply to the latest EU directive, which is: Directive 2002/80 phase B,which means Euro 4 emissions.I asked them if it needs to comply with anything else e.g rear fog light and they said all they care about is emissions. Also the import tax on the ute is 7% on the price of the invoice.I told them that the ute complys to euro 3 emissions and if i could get holden to modify the emissions to euro 4, they told me that its accepted but holden must supply a certificate stating that it complys to euro 4 emissions and it must me translated into greek and officially stamped by the greek consulate in australia. They also told me that if a similar ute exists in europe (maloo r8) then it can be imported into greece regardless of emissions, meaning that if the hsv maloo r8 complys to euro 2 or euro 3 emissions i will have to pay worst case senario 9.1% import tax.Does anyone know who in the UK(trade or private) sells the the hsv maloo r8 or holden ss ute,i just wanna see if its cheaper to buying one from the UK or from oz.

several utes already here - manye owned by members of this forum. Walkinshaw's outfit near Witney officially import & sell them & I'm sure LSV & Monkfish will have the info you need from their vast experience.
