I have the VXR for a week and i'm thinking upgrades. It needs to sound even better! I have already had some superb information from the guys at Monkfish and also LSV & Greens, so thank you all.

But what do you guys think and recommend? I am thinking of a Wortec Sport Pac to start with, possibly AP brakes to follow and then who knows what else in the future. I would be grateful for any advice.

ripshifter in my experience is excellent, though I still miss 3rd gear at least once a day even with it installed, probably my big fat hands to blame for that!really positive action, much improved on the bowl of porridge feeling from the standard shift. try get along to the Ace cafe or one of the VXR meets and try someones out to see what yout think.

Dont forget the VXR has a short throw HSV shifter anyway. The CV8 has the stock holden mess.

If the VXR has the short throw then I would have hated the long throw. The standard VXR gear shift is crap.

I don't see what the problem is with the original gearshift. I've done 42k miles with one and changes are swift and very rarely if ever missed. If anything it's got better and better over time.

Does the ripshifter make it an easier (effort) to change gears as my VXR with a 1000 miles on is a bit of a pig its so heavy

dunno about doing a dyno outside with the bonnet up in the current windy conditions, and as we all know now its got to be bonnet up to get the correct figures

Does the 3.9 diff make a big difference? If so does it simply increase accelaration but decrease top speed or am I thinking along the wrong lines?

The 3.9 will make a big difference, probably seem the equivalent of +50bhp or more.

Top speed would actually be increased as it makes 6th gear more of a "usable" gear rather than just a motorway cruising gear. With the current gearing top speed would be achieved in 5th gear as you would not be able to sustain the revs in 6th.

Of course all the gears would have a lower top speed so you would be changing up that much more than before.

I changed my diff on a previous car (Astra turbo) and to be honest I thought it was a mod too far. Acceleration was great but it affected the top end speed too much. Originally it was about 150mph and after about 125. I realise that this is way higher than the speed limit and of course I would never drive that fast angel but the higher revs at cruising speeds killed the fuel consumption.

But not for us 'poor' 04 model owners who got behind the product earlier.........
and they talk about discrimination on Big Brother.
