Don’t laugh, but has anyone fitted a tow bar to a 04 CV8. I would like to point out its not for a caravan, but a trailer to take my newly acquired race car to meetings.
Can anybody point me in the direction of a good kit that doesn’t look to silly.
Thanks
Chris

I don't think you will find a kit in this country, though i might be wrong. The vehicle is not type approved for a tow bar as it does not have adjustable headlights. At least thats my understanding.

There is a "proper" holden tow bar which could be obtained, but it would be of questionable legality if used in this country.

Got mine through Picador, looks ok with the tow ball removed, but had to take the fog light away to fit.No MOT in the channel islands, and do most of my motoring in europe ,not sure if legal, use the van to go on track days, hols, and a great way to see Le Mans in comfort.By the way booked in with Monkfish to have Wortec sport pac, and full AVO suspension fitted, should make awsome tow car ??? Cant wait.

I may be able to help here.

I'm currently looking to change my car and am looking into what enjoyable cars I can find that I can tow with. Oh, and I tow a caravan and I don't care!!

Anyway, according to the most knowledgeable bloke I spoke to, you can put a custom built towbar onto a car as long as it's single type approved, a sort of personal import rather than a normal european supplied whole type approved car, then they could help. I was quite surprised when he said that even all the Mitsi EVO's were single type approved as opposed to whole type approved, so they've been able to put 'bars on them. So the Monaro, CV8 etc shouldn't be a problem.

Below is a link to their website, I don't know the guys name and haven't used them yet, but I believe I will be doing so in the near future (unless I can find a decent car with a genuine tow option).

www.watling-towbars.co.uk/import_vehicle_towbars.html

Credit to pointing these out go to the kind person who posted it on one of my topics.

Let us know how you get on...

Nige.

Well after many phone calls, the bottom line is that the Monaro is not type approved for a tow bar and as a result now one makes or supplies one in the UK.
I could get one from New Zeeland or Australia but as the Monaro is different to a standard Holden there is no guarantee it will fit.
I could probably get one made but it would be illegal and if I had an accident there is a good chance the insurance would not pay out.

So I have given up and fitted a tow bar to the wife’s X5 instead.

Thanks for the help chaps, at least now I know.
