I just test drove a new Monaro VXR the 6 litre version (yes I know these were built in 05). As the car built up speed (85 to 90 +) there seems to be quite a lot of road / wind noise. This could also be due to the road surface, but how do others rate the cabin noise against other cars they have been in please? I am a high mileage driver and think the car is great (particularly with the current pricing) but does this noise become tiresome after while or am I imagining it? I would appreciate your views. Thanks.

Probably due to the car sitting for so long, and the tyres have flat spots/hardened rubber.

Mine is serene at those speeds

and of course you wouldn't normally be sitting at 80-90 on UK motorways so the noise shouldn't be a problem and clearly your test drive was on a private road..... cop

I've had my VXR 2-weeks and have covered 1450 miles. It replaced a Porsche 993C2S and XKR. I've found road noise to be about the same when comparing a mix of road surfaces and driving speeds. However, it is a good point about the vehicles having been stood for a while. I am convinced mine has improved in every respect as the miles add up. Steering feels better, grip has improved and the car feels generally better! ONly one thing to say ENJOY!

Done 60k in mine and it is a supreme cruiser IMHO.

Get a decent exhaust and that would provide a background rumble that will see off any wind/road noise.

At UK motorway speeds I fidn th car very quiet.

Wind and Road noice is much better than in my Impreza STi....

Not done many miles yet, but after two hours on a motorway this morning I can say that I think it is a really comfortable and relaxed cruiser.

Yep I agree with above compared to my old 968, road noise is significantly less, definatly a great long distance cruiser. Also fuel consumption is much better when doing long motorway drives 23mpg or better is possible.

Go for it!

My insurance company just said no (AXA) so I need to call round for a quote - any ideas?

I've insured through Churchill for a few years and they took on the VXR and were cheaper than A Plan. Norwich Union Direct also offered a good quote so worth a try. I paid less than £620 Fully comp
