cheers but was more on about going from a 5% mix to upwards of 85% mix of ethanol to petrol. At present the Tesco stuff is the E10 (5 to 10% mix, think they use 5%) but looking into the future I wondered how easy, if at all possible, it is to run the LSx on a much larger mix ratio...

Obviously we all (or a good few of us) are running E10 99RON from Tesco without issues but now that E85 is being introduced does anyone know if the LS1 can run on the higher ethanol mix?
Are Tesco selling it around here? I thought it was only available in the South East.
Ethanol burns 9 parts fuel to one part air. So you need to burn a lot more than with petrol. The hydrocarbon chains are a lot shorter. Like 2 carbons instead of 5+ etc.
Anyway, your closed loop will sort you out during most driving.
I know later PCM's have special tables for E85. There are loads of threads on ls1tech.com about the fuel. Might be worth a search there.

Do not attempt to run the car on E85. Tank , fuel lines , fuel rail , injectors and ECU would need changing first.
Any Euro IV engine can run up to 10% , even 15% for short periods but the combined corrosive effect of E85 needs some modifications.
Most companies are working on E85 vehicles and GM,Ford and Daimler Chrysler have said they'll run 50% of production by 2012 using E85.

yes, tesco 99 is everywhere now!
Mt car ran terribly with 99 Ron. Tried a few tanks of this and it rane worst I have ever known it. 6 tanks of Texaco Hi-Octane later, car was as right as rain, a few more tanks of V-Stuf and running the best it ever has.
WHile running Tesco, car felt lumpy, lifeless and generally had no bollox. Not recommended from me!
Oh and don't ever go to Sainsbury's and use their 97.
