I was interested to read in some of the threads, comments which seem to hint that some cars are fitted with Goodyear Eagle tyres. My car came fitted with Pirelli P Zeros... What do you have fitted?

My GTS has P Zero Rossos on it and they're not great, in my opinion at least. They're fine in the dry but I have zero confidence in them in the wet, so they'll be changed for Eagle F1's (which from experience are great in the wet) soon as I can get away with it financially

Just my opinion of course.

I wont be going back to the Zero's crap tyres and didnt get much mileage out of them.

The F1s have been superb, almost 18k on them at the moment and no signs of grief whatsoever. However I may try the Bridgestones next, cant remember what they are known as, but the tread looks as funky as feck. And have heard great reports about them. Have also read that they do not hold as much grip as the F1s and that the Bs are more expensive.

Hmmmmm tough choice, but F1s have been bloody superb value all around!

Saw some F1's been chewed to buggery on a dyno last week, admittedly on a 600 hp application, too soft for me, very happy with Nankang NS2 or Falkens, not tried Dunlop SportMAX or Pirelli Nero Zero on the HSV yet but used both makes on other cars but will stay with Nankang's @ £93 each (245/19/35)

If the F1's were being dammaged, that says there was tyre slip? I have used F1's on my HSV for the past 3 years. The grip in the wet is great.

Well they are a wet weather tyre, totally agree for grip in the wet, outstanding for use in the smart being a light car.

I am on my second set of F1's with no complaints at all even with 750 BHP. P-Zero Rossas were good too but prefer the F1. Have them on several other performance cars and would recommend them.............unless Bridgestone re-release their original SO2, their dropping it and launching the SO3 probably the worst marketing mistake ever this side of MG Rover not marketing the MG ZT 260 properly.

I've just swapped (12,000 miles) the OEM Bridgestones for a set of Avon ZZ3's. To soon to report back other than they are a tad noisier and the complete lack of rim protection. I've had them before on a Turbo 4x4 Calibra and they worked well on that setup in both wet and dry conditions. So I'm hoping for the same on the Roo.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A give good wet/dry grip and mileage.
All round improvement over the original Bridgestone RE040.
1 Pair on the fronts and 3 pair on the rear in 52K Miles.

What is Rim Protection? Is it simply that the tyre sticks out to stop you hitting the rims on the kerb - or is there something else?

Normally just a bead moulded into sidewall, it hits the curb before the rim. 235 on 8 x 18" rims with protector pretty useless, 245's however work

I've got F1s all-round. Very good wet or dry but possibly make the steering a little vague around the straight ahead. I base this on Roger at Monkfish telling me that they felt a little wooly compared to the stock Bridgestones, possibly because of the V-shaped tread design, however I have a little more negative camber than standard so that might be a cause too. Once loaded up in a corner however they sure do hang on, excellent grip and handle standing water like no other tyre I've had. Good square shoulder design with a nice overlap to protect your wheels too. Really really shit on snow though :P

I agree with the vague feeling. In fact I took a set off after 100 miles or so, they are almost new and sat in my garage. offers?
