Ive got an annoying sqeaking from what i assume is on the of the belts. What if anything is ok to spray to lubricate? WD40 or is a silicon lubricante ok to use? I'm sure i remember reading some where to keep silicon away from engines, but they do sell it in halfords...

Don't under any circumstances spray WD40 or any other oil based products near the belts, it will rot them. The stuff you need is called belt dressing spray, which comes in a spray tin, you spray it over the contact surface of the pulleys while the engine is running and it coats everything with a grippy surface which stops the slight slipping which causes the squeak.

You can also cure squeals by smearing soap over the pulley, but this works by making it slip more which seems like a step in the wrong direction to me.

Not likely to be a belt. More likely to one of the idler pulleys. Spraying these doesn't normally work, or at least not for long. There are a total of 4 potential culprits.
