Found this whilst getting a valuation for my wife's Frontera V6 (paid 16k for it 2 1/2 years ago and being offered 6.5K as a p/x. Feel sick now)

Anyhow, this is how What Car? online put the rate of depreciation on our cars:

Year 0 Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4
Vauxhall Monaro Coupe 5.7 V8 2dr £29,965 £19,192 £16,315 £13,699 £11,374
Vauxhall Monaro Coupe 5.7 VXR 2dr £35,595 £22,798 £19,381 £16,274 £13,511
Vauxhall Monaro Coupe 6.0 VXR 2dr £36,995 £23,695 £20,143 £16,914 £14,043

Also, insurance companies are adjusting the bands of car insurance based on new data regarding repairs/spares availability, safety etc from 20 to 50! Last re-banding was carried out in 1992.

Never believe a word of it. Yes, there are figures to be used for various reasons but with such low numbers of cars in the UK I suspect values will move around a lot. I'll be surprised if my car is only worth £15k in a year...

Its roughly 50% depreciation in 3 years - fairly typical really. Your kidding yourself if you think that its going to be more valuable because only a few were made/imported.

I don't think anything - I just don't follow those numbers. Maybe it's just the numbers there, but I've found that cars in general don't follow them.

I assumed they'd be rather 'iffy' figures, but it's interesting to see how different companies such as Parker and Glasses etc can vary so wildly in their valuations.

If our cars came already badged as Holden rather than Vauxhall (but still through the VX dealerships) would those figures be higher and depreciate less?

50% over three years but very much depends upon miles covered and condition.

I bought an M5 (£69k when new) a while back - 3 years old with 33k for £30k, so Monaros are no worse than BMWs

I fully expect my car to go up in value.

What car and parkers prices are always higher than the actual trade values, Mr Parker wouldnt sell any magazines if he showed what peoples cars are really worth would he so their always a bit on the generous side.

Monaro's dont exist in the Glass's guide so getting a real value is a nightmare, have to go to one of the actual Monaro dealers and see what they value them at as their the only people that know really.
