questions regarding ECU reset

OK I know \i have to disconnect the battery to do so but have some fairly basic questions
1.) When the battery is disconnected, does the custom map survive (ie is it in NVram?)
2.) My car was not supplied with a security code despite reference to it in the manual (tried and tried to get one but no hope). If I disconnect the battery upon reconnection will the Radio require a security code?
Will 10 minutes be long enough?

well just dug out my paperwork and I don't seem to have a code for mine either. As long as you have the VIN number then Vauxhall dealer should be able to get you the code if there is one - come to think of it I've disconnected my battery a couple of times now and havent had to reset any code, even when the car came back from the repair workshop when it had been removed for several weeks.

with regards to the pcm reset is it best to do the battery method or just remove the bcm fuse and do it that way?

Do a search on LS1.com.au. You don't need to do the battery. Its a fuse under the bonnet that resets the PCM (not BCM). This will restore the seetings you have, but if your car ain't tuned correctly it will move to the position you are.
You will know when the PCM is reset as when you first start it the car runs as lumpy as heheheh.
Yeah, the main effect is to reset the long term fuel trims.
As mentioned there should be no point with a decent tune as the long term fuel trims will be at or near zero.
The factory tune by the way isn't decent.
Its aimed at the lowest common denominator, min emissions and max engine safety.

as said i need to reset the fuel trims. It has been getting richer and richer so cleaned the maf but the o2 could also be an issue. The tune is good and proven indipendant from the original tuners but it has been deteriorating slightly - prob as a result of the MAF. Resetting the trim and going to try with specific grade fuel (not the ethanol rated stuff) to see if it makes a diff.

I've done mine loads of times by pulling the fuse. I used to have a problem with the exhaust banging on the driveshafts which the pcm detected as knock, and pulled timing. PCM reset also puts you back onto the hi octane ignition table.
The fuse has to be out for a while, and I think I used to switch the ignition on and off as well, but its been a while. You will know when its been reset cos it doesn't idle for a while.

Querie for you, when was last dealer service done as I am aware that some vehicles have ability to detune your car overtime when mileage getting near services in order to get you to notice difference and get serviced. I seem to have read this somewhere along time ago can't rememer what outcome was.But it is entirely plausable and possible to do with modern PCM etc
well finally did it today, didnt want to risk missing the funeral so waited until after.
It has made a difference - both to mpg and presumed power. Course it could all be just in the mind but there is a definite up in feel of power certainly like I recall coming away from its tune. It is back to skittering the wheels coming out of round abouts again which it wasnt at all before the reset - it just seems to pick up that much better.

The LS1 PCM does not have any "service degredation" built in.
If you are getting better performance with a reset, then you have a few options. One of which is to run only short term fuel trims and dump the long term function. (The engine doesnt learn any bad habits). You can also run a permanent open loop and ignore O2 sensors altogether (requires a very good tune which requires no triming)
Or... get a tune if you havnt already, or get a touch up if you have one. Fuel Trims should be zero or slightly negative. Then fuel is only pulled out not added.
As mentioned from the factory fueling under throttle can be around 11:1 whereas the ideal is closer to 13:1 NA (FI is more like 12:1)
