Had an interesting couple of drives today. Not in the Monaro but an Astra Twin Top 1.9D.

On the way to work had a Mini behind me (and the xenon's really annoyed). Got to an overtakig stretch where I could pass the car in front and the Mini started overtaking me, I kept it nailed and he inched past, to the bends whee basically he left me for dead. I know these roads quite well driving them daily so was really impressed that he left me for dead.

On the way back from work I was following a 328 GTS (lovely sound) and I could not fathom whether he was trying or not. Am guessing he was upshifting early but then he overtook in a slighly 'brave' place. This time round I was basically pushing him on the same roads (around the bends where he slightly pulled away).

Enjoyed both encounters but left pondering, Is the Mini Cooper that quick? Was the 328 driving slowly or is it slow? Are modern cars much better than the older ones and what would have happened if I had had the Monaro?

I have a 328gts as well as the Monaro. The 328 can be quite quick at high revs, and will go round corners like it's on rails. It only has 275 bhp,but is a light car and the v8 is torquey(is that a seaside resort?)I guess a lot of it is down to the driver, the revs top out around 7500,you could be right about early upshifting.
The gts has to be at least 17/18 years old,(last made 1989)the Monaro would outpace it by far in a straight line, but my standard vxr would not get me from A to B on twisty roads as quick as the gts.
