Tyres & bulbs for HSV GTS
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I know this one's most likely been done to death but the useful FAQ seems to have disappeared?
Anyway, I need new rubber for my GTS. Want to go wih Goodyear Eagle F1's as I've had them on other cars and they seem very popular for our cars, so that's sorted, but I seem to be struggling for a good price. Best I've had so far is £134 a corner for 235/40/18. I seem to remember some of you getting them for aroudn £100 a corner, can anyone confirm that, and if yes, where?
Also just noticed this morning that one headlight bulb is gone. As I'm not expecting Halfrauds to list the HSV in their bulb guide, can I assume it's the same as a Monaro or is it specifically something else?
Thanks very much in advance as always for any help.

I payed just over £100 a corner for my F1s from mytyres.co.uk and then took them to a local fitter who charged me £10 per tyre to fit (not cheap but not expensive either and they take good care of your wheels).
You may be able to haggle with a local outfit and get them down to £100 a corner all in. The previous owner of mine said he got 2 F1s fitted and including VAT for £170 from somewhere.

£107.90 from http://ssl.delti.com/mytires/start.ht
I am still happy with Nankang NS-2, less than £70 a corner from same supplier, I use F1's on another motor so I know what they are like

.. bulbs are standard fit, just take the old one in with you.
Doh. Genuinely hadn't thought of that. That's what having a 5 month old baby in the house will do to you, no sleep....

And +1 for the NS2's here. I run the 245's all round
I'm running 245's as well, Pzeros that the previous owner put on, but I was going to go back to the 235 standard fit. Cheaper tyres and as the manufacturer intended, which I'm a great believer in when it comes to tyres. Is that not a good idea, or just generally not worth it?

Thanks for the link - very keen pricing on there.
How good would you say these Nankangs are in comparison to the F1's? I am due for my third set of rears in a just under a year

I like your style!
At that rate and with summer coming on, why not give them a try!?
If they dont work out Im sure you can think of something to do with them

That's sortof what I'm considering with the Nankangs. Had my heart set on F1's, but if the general consensus is that they're good, it's worth a try. Trying to source some locally at the moment.
Anyone know what the difference between "235/40 R18 95W" and "235/40 R18 95W RF TW" is?
Mytyres list those 2 types of Nankang NS-2s for the same price.
Edit: Actually it doesn't matter because they aren't Y rated so aren't suitable anyway. The 19 inch version is though.

TW = 118 mph & 95W = 168 mph
I personally rate the F1's as the best wet weather tyre but do not like it's lack of straight line stability at high speed which is why I will not fit to my HSV, they are great on the smart as they are a soft compound & with little weight in the smart and run them at 26 & 28 psi, whereas on the HSV 36 psi all round.
Spirited driving gives limited life on any tyre, so if you like drifting or black lining an inexpensive tyre makes sense to me. I was somewhat pesimistic about Nankang's at first but rate them now, recc to other people (non-hsv) & they are delighted too.
Each to their own....

Standard VT/VTII lights inc HSV's
Normal beam is H4
High beam is H1
I have some called Philips Visionplus on mine with the claimed upto 50% more light. They are brighter I must admit.
I think you can get super duper ones but they might get too hot and melt the plastic
Monaro uses different bulbs.

good point, I tend to stay sub 150 nowadays so it does not worry me
Yours are 19in though aren't they? The 19in Nankangs on mytyres are Y rated. Like you say it's not going to be an issue if they are a lower speed rating provided the load rating is equal or better. I just like to keep things as straight an narrow as possible and I'm sure an insurance company would pick up on something like incorrect tyres.
try www.falkentyres.co.uk £81.92 each inc VAT for 235/40/18 "Y" rated.
Not sure on a HSV/Monaro but on an Impreza "bloody brilliant" as good if not better than Toyos.
245's were only a few quid dearer as well.

Must be your different suspension set up & weight distribution Will, as I found the F1's straight line stability excellent, even at 175mph, LOL.
As you say, they are excellent in the wet.

If I am honest Tom it is probally down to the first 500 miles of use as they do wander a bit before they are run in
