Spent the afternoon at Bruntingthorpe proving ground learning track craft and drifting, hopefully post some Mpeg's later got some great footage.

Sadly however I did burst both rear tyre's while donnutting round a road cone which was most fun!

I also manage to use up my rear pads and knacker both rear brake disc's....ouch!

Brake disc's appear to be on back order and are in short supply there also bloody expesive, so I was wondering if any of you chappie's who have swapped for the AP set up have a pair of rear VXR brake disc's hanging around your garage that I could liberate from you for a few quid.

I also need two tyre's and so far have found a local supplier quoting £158 each fitted for F1 Eagle's. Has anyone found better anywhere else particularly in Berkshire.

Cheers

There is a newish set of vxr disks on ebay. Only a few hundred last time I looked. Disks/Pads and all.

Also for tyres look at mytres.co.uk or similar. Blackcirlces list local shops that will fit them for you. You should have £80 or so Id have thought.

Odd that your rears are knackered but not the fronts. In what way are the disks fooked?

Guy's thanks for all the reply's,

Found the e-bay set of brakes gonna keep an eye on them, I'll follow up the tip on the mytres web site in the morning.

Billy's I've sent an e-mail to you, hopefully could solve all my prob's in one go!

Bit late now but if I don't hear from you tonight I'll give you a call tomorrow if that convenient.

The front pads are probably shot aswell, but the front disc's and pads were replaced about 4k ago, the rear however had 28k on then so they took the beating.

I'll post some pics and film soon, but it was great fun, though I'll think long and hard about the brakes before I do it again!!

Thanks again Guy's

Meant to say, the rear pads wore down to metal on metal which grooved the disc's, only found out when braking from a 160mph run on the main straight, bit late by then !

Could only get 140 in 6th though, seemed limited ?

Also can anyone confirm if the 05VXR disc's are the same as the 04 ones, size etc?

Just heard from the main dealer that could be on back order for six months unless greens has some in stock ?

Cheers,

*kkkkkggggggzzhaahakkkkkkkk* is *NOT* what you want to hear when braking from 160mph! yikes

Sounds like you had fun though!

When I was at Brunters for VMax last year I don't think I got into 6th before the timing gear. My Vmax on that day was 153mph in 5th.

Guy's does anyone know if the Pontiac GTO brakes 2004-2006, will fit an 04VXR, they seem hugely cheaper which makes me think they may be different ?

They are not the same. They are the same as what you get on a CV8 I think. The disks and calipers are made by PBR in Australia I think. It might be cheaper going to direct to a PBR supplier than via Vauxhall. Corvettes also use PBR brakes so a 'vette specialist may be able to help if none of the Holden specialists can.

Regarding your 6th gear question - the engine doesn't have enough torque to keep accelerating. Top speeds in these cars are all done in 5th (manufacturer wise). If you mod the hell out of it then you could go well past 200mph in that 6th cog.

Are you sure? Because we maxed out 5th Gear in an 04 CV8 at 155mph (on a private road) but the 6.0VXR which has the same gear ratio's has a claimed top speed of 180mph.

I think the LS2 make peak power at higher revs so it could do 180mph in 5th if peak power was just over 6000rpm - I think!

Does anyone know where peak power is on an LS1?

Only SC LS1, 550 ft-lbs @ 4,900 & 575 bhp @ 5,600 rpm. I tend to change from 5th at 5k (130 mph) & pull in 6th from 3,250 with 470 ft-lbs & 300 bhp, 180 mph in 6th would be 4,500 with max torque available and 470 bhp, so another 105 bhp to be used for +180 speeds. Only seen 185 on French M/ways without the 'bottle' to try for the max (lightish steering, rear windows being pushed in) but one day I reckon it could be good for 195 mph

Our LS1 kept pulling right to the limiter (6250) after mods according to various dyno print outs. Standard it is supposed to be 5750. The LS2's limiter is at 6500 I think so I doubt 250 revs would make that much difference.

Cheers, but I got a set from a nice chap on here, and there hopefully being installed right now.

Still after a deal on a set of 19 inch tyres though if anyone has some, ideally a set of four any good brand really would do, F1's zero's etc.

Cheers all,
