Just got habitualvoyeurs (spelling?) set off ebay and collected today. We had been discussing if he knew which calipers mated up to which disc so the pads could be kept but he couldnt remember. At first I thought it should be fairly easy as the calipers can only fit on one hub and the discs have grooves so they should be easy to tell their direction...

Without looking myself I was told that the groves seem to run in the same direction when looking at them on the floor so is it the case that on one side the groves rotate one way and on the other they rotate the oposite? So like on one side looking at them they run away from the front of the car but on the other towards them? Does this not impare the groves effectiveness?

btw if you're fitting to a cv8 you'll need the rear caliper brake lines - about 60 quid from Greens for the 2

ta for the heads up, I'll have a chat with whoever fits them about that

You are correct, the discs are single sided so one will go one way the other the other. Shouldnt make any real difference to the performance.

re the ecu - did hear once that there is a "performance brakes" option that needs turned on using a tech2. getting mine fitted on 13th so will check that at same time - lucky I'm not suspicious!

It relates to 6.0 VXR cars and the tech2 upgrade is for use with the AP upgrade. It adjusts the properties of the EBD.

what exactly is required on the rear disc upgrade? It may sound like an obvious question but why do the rear brake lines need replacing?

I assume the standard ones are too short to reach the feed point on the new calipers but I'm sure someone will clarify further.

could it be worth going to braided hoses at the same time?

The fronts end up being a bit long, and the rears a bit short, but i'm using them on mine yikes

(Thanks for the discs Brian, all back to normal now )

so would it really be advisable to replace the lines at the same time for vxr ones?

for the extra piece of mind with brakes I'll always spend a bit more to get the right parts. For an extra 60 quid to ensure a good fit I reckon its worth buying the VXR rear hoses. I'm having mine fitted this Friday and have also opted for 5.1 fully synthetic brake fluid at the same time. Still swithering over asking Monkfish for a set of their pads to go with the rest of the brakes- guess I better make my mind up soon :-)

have to say am v tempted by the monkfish pads but have had great results with red and yellow stuff before but have to say, your suggestion of the monkfish pads sounds the best to me.

Am def going to get teh hoses too.

red stuff pads on Monaro totally useless in my experience, wore out in 4k miles and warped disks

cheers Benno

after the reports and recommendations I've gotten a set of the pads from Monkfish, their fluid and a set of rear pipes on order as suggested above.

Roll on next week
