Warranty and non-Dealer Servcing....
Discussion
What is the official line on this? Do we have to have it serviced in a proper Vauxhall/Monaro dealer for the warranty to be valid?
Monkfish are quite near me - nearer than any dealer - and are cheaper than my supplying dealer according to their web site.
I don't want to invalidate my warranty though.
Also, perhaps a bigger worry, if I do end up using Monkfish will I be unable to resist all the fancy mods and end up with new exhausts, ripshifters, etc. and therefore it will work out much more expensive than going to the official dealer who don't have all this stuff on offer.....
So anyway, does it have to be an official dealer - that's the key question...
Cheers

BER 1400/2002
=============
In October 2003 European Union legislation, ‘Block Exemption Regulations 1400/2002’ (BER) came into force
This gave motorists more freedom in their decision as to who should repair and service their vehicles – now any garage can be used without invalidating the manufacturer’s warranty (subject to certain conditions)
This was as a result of four specific ‘freedoms’ that were introduced, aimed at safeguarding free competition in the entire market for vehicle spare parts, service and repair. These meant:
· parts distributors can supply parts of the appropriate quality to dealers and authorised repairers without the vehicle manufacturer / assembler using ‘dealer / repairer contracts’ or other means to prevent them
· parts manufacturers can no longer be forced by their original equipment (OE) contract to limit supply of parts to the vehicle manufacturer / assembler
· parts manufacturers can supply OE products under their own brand so motorists and repairers will not feel they have to go to a main dealer for a certain part
· anyone with a legitimate need for technical information has a right of access to it in a usable form and at a reasonable cost
The BER covers service and maintenance during the warranty period and prohibits vehicle manufacturers’ warranties from including conditions requiring that:
· all normal maintenance be provided within the vehicle manufacturer’s network
· all parts used must be the manufacturer’s original spare parts
Independent repairers CAN carry out normal maintenance and repair services during a vehicle’s warranty period without invalidating the warranty conditions provided that:
· the service is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s servicing schedules and is recorded as such
· any parts used are of ‘appropriate quality’ and are recorded as such
(Now FAQ'd)

That's my worry as well
I looked into this service malarky when I bought a new car. I was assured that as long as it was serviced at a reputable garage using manufacturers parts, filters etc., the warranty would be fine and it was.
Down side came when I came to px it for another new one, "can't sell it with manufacturers used car warranty 'cos it doesn't have dealer service history" was the reply everywhere, "we'll have to trade it" they all said.
If you're planning on keeping it for years or selling it privately it's no problem. If you're planning on swapping it in 3 or 4 years at the dealer you'll lose more money than you've saved on the servicing

It's really not a matter of the money saved, it's the quality of service that you get by going to the people who know how these cars work. When I had my first service, Roger was the same price as my nearest Vauxhall Monaro agent, and I'm happy that he knows what he's doing. Ironically, I live next door to LSV. I don't have any problem with using them at all, but used Roger as he did the exhaust and re-map and I was more than happy with the level of service provided.
I can see your point with your comments on resale value following dealer service, but our cars are such a specialised model that anyone who knows and has researched them (and that includes the dealers) should know about these specialist agents. After all, something in excess of a third of Monaro's have been breathed on by Wortec/Monkfish/LSV and all the ownwers will advertise that fact when selling
Ps. Whatever you do, don't use Roger. He seems very pleasent and reasonable, and will invite you to tea and biscuit evenings to see and letcher other peoples cars (and his ute!). From there on it's the slippery road to financial ruin..... Only kidding! What's this about a new beast,Roger?
