Time to complete: 15 minutes
Complexity: 1 out of 5
Tools needed:

(Or a flat blade screwdriver if you don’t have a trim popper)
Pull back rubber seal and pop out the retainers holding down this panel.

The centre spline come out first, then the retainer pops out

The panel is now held in by 5 retaining clips at the base of the windscreen. Yank up and towards you

What you then see is the only thing stopping polluted air getting in the ventilations system: a leaf screen.

And despite living indoors for most of it’s life, this has still managed to accumulate:

Hoover it all out thoroughly

And using the Pliers either break the mesh to get a grip or pull and twist the whole screen out towards you. It is no longer needed.

Ensure the filter is sitting the right way round (Air flowing in!)

And twist to fit back in the recess, over the bottom retaining lug.

Replace top cover and retrofit.

I don’t need to tell you the health benefits of this cheap mod – which is a genuine GM part to boot. They’re on ebay but
I’ve asked Jez if I can run a group buy (c. £28 all in) so would appreciate initial feedback if you’re interested?

Cheers

Count me in too, please! Perhaps I shall then be able to breathe as easy as the LS2 with the Wortec exhaust.

Finally fitting mine now. Actually, doing it twice; first filter I've soaked in A/C disinfectant to clear out the crap in the system. Running it now for 20 mins before putting a fresh filter in.

There were more leaves in yours than mine. Gave it a good hoover out anyway.

Good job Paul - Easy enough and straightforward?
Did you get rid of your pong?

Very straight forward and easy, thanks to your step by step pictures. Can't tell if the pongy aircon smell has gone due to the overpowering stench of the disinfectant aerosol! But that should subside after a few days.

Looking at doing this on my VT should work on a monaro too using a C4 filter. Hoping it will help the coolant smell that's in the air.

An no I'm not leaking coolant. I had a leak and since it just smells.

When i first read this I thought it was a replacement filter - hadn't appreciated it was replacing a plastic screen.

I know - I just don't understand the reasoning behind not providing one as standard - maybe Australians think they have the Monopoly on Pollen and dust smile

Maybe they don't have so many diesels over there, pollen filter ? More like soot particle filter if you ask me ! The harmful emissions of diesels are always being swept under the carpet, quite literally yikes

Are there any plans afoot for another group buy or does someone have a spare I could purchase?

Thanks

Thanks Gary. Good to meet you earlier.

Now fitted & the original leaf catcher is in my 'dump run' pile.

Thanks again.
