Help - can't get head unit out
Discussion
If you pry on one side or corner does it seem to come out more/less? The metal tangs the removal tool depress can deform, which makes it a sod to remove. I think I ended up putting an allen key inside the CD drawer, and pulling on it with mole grips. I think there's a youtube video where somebody does it with a bicycle spoke.
It can be an absolute sod to get out. As moto said, try pulling the tangs outwards and / or inwards, eventually something seems to just get to the right spot and it moves a bit.
The problem I had removing mine was the tangs kept pulling out, so I was trying to get them to 'grip' the unit by pulling them to the sides.
Evil task anyway!

Dear Steve,
have another go this morning and it'll come out first try
That's what happened to me - spent 1/2hr of easing and squeezing (and swearing of course) no joy. Gave it a rest and had a cuppa. Went back and out it came smooth as. No idea what I did differently.
As others have said pushing the tools apart or together slightly as you heave might help,
regards,
Jet

I remember having an issue getting the unit to budge, it was a while back, but i think i got to the rear of the unit's housing from the glove box and used a leaver through the housing on to the back of the unit whilst using the release pins at the front at the same time, don't force it though !
Finally something I can help with! (although it's already been covered by others
).
As above, it is a proper fiddle but I found it essential to have (or fabricate from a wire coat hangar in my case... i think that's what i used in the end) a tool that you can feed into the CD drive and then rotate (to get some sort of purchase on the thing) and then pull.
So in short; best to fiddle with the tools until it feels like something has clicked/freed and then gently pull with aforementioned tool.
...so yeah, what the others already said really! but that's my 2pence (or whatever the phrase is...)
hope that helps.
