Tried the usual cheap Bluetooth OBD2 code readers and apps, even had Snap On come down which said they can read any car but nothing has worked.

Can some one help nearby with a tech2 to read my codes? I'm in Barnsley, South Yorkshire

Mark

Is it a VXR8 or a Monaro?

I've successfully read and cleared codes on VXR8s with my cheap BT code reader paired to my phone, but never tried on the Monaro.

I understand that some codes cannot be read or cleared, such as ABS codes, but had no problem with engine codes

I'm also in Barnsley

Its an 05 Monaro 6.0 VXR, I've tried apps from apple and android and all have said no codes stored, yet I think I have 2 faults. 1st is off the throttle say going down hill the engine light will come on. 2nd seems to be ABS related sometimes loss off traction will show the engine warning light and the trac off symbol appears.

Another strange thing is when the trac off fault appears the car seems to gain performance and is a totally different beast. Yet if I turn off the car off and fire backup again all is normal. If I turn the trac off manually I don't get the performance boost I get the when the car turns it off itself. So very strange.

I can also help, but in Indonesia at the moment, if you don’t get sorted out by the time I get back I can have a look, I am near to sunny Barnsley every week. Get back on the 19th, and will be in South Yorkshire that weekend. I have HP tuners and EFI live.

I had massive problems getting a reader to work on my Monaro ('54 CV8)... i tried the SnapOn Solus Ultra, Launch x431.... novelty BT toys... various other garage's OBD readers... nothing worked... eventually I managed to meet up with PhillW who sorted it straight away with his fancy laptop gadgetry! (thanks again Phil! thumbup) So I'd take his offer unless you get it sorted elsewhere first!

This is virtually word for word a post I could have written at the moment.

I believe most of the code readers don't work because the codes are encrypted, and you need Tech2 or something along those lines to be able to read them.

From what I understand from reading here, the car is pretty basic when turning the TC off and it will do it the moment it sees something wrong. Mine turns off when I use more than about half throttle for about 7 secs. When its done that the performance also seems noticeably better too. I'm thinking along the lines of the throttle pedal position sensor, and the reduced performance in "normal running" is down to over fuelling which somehow sorts itself when the TC is off. This is from just looking at a few basic displays on an OBD reader though and having a best guess with some basic knowledge.

Interesting, thanks for your input. As soon as I find out the codes I will report back. I am however inclined to think it might be a over fuelling issue but will hopefully find out soon.

Big thank you to Phill for meeting me today. Any help on the codes would be greatly appreciated. I'm guessing looks like I need a full set o2 sensors?

Could be a wiring problem, really you need to test the sensors and clear the codes and see what re-appears.

Sometimes multiple codes are a bum steer and it's a lesser problem causing them all
