Unfortunately had my LS2 Monaro fail it's MOT earlier...

1. Offside rear (front to rear pipe by rear hose) brake pipe excessively corroded.
2. Exhaust Emissions Lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits.

Shame as it's off to Monkfish next friday for a service.

I know the front to rear brake pipe corrosion is becoming quite common and the easiest way to do it is to drop the rear sub-frame, however I've seen people mention they've done it themselves. I like to think I'm quite handy when it comes to cars and would have a crack at it, no access to a lift though, just stands! Can anyone offer any tips to this?

And secondly, the Lambda, unfortunately the car is showing no fault codes (however EML is on), so it's going to be quite difficult to track down the faulty oxygen sensor (if that is the issue!). Am I right in thinking the LS2 has 2x pre and 2x post cat Oxygen sensors?

I'll give MF a call in the morning, see what they recommend as at this rate the car won't be going anywhere!

Time to relax for the evening now smile

Can't help on the O2 sensors but as for the brake pipes; I had to replace mine on my 04 CV8 about 18months ago, fortunately I have my own lift which made the job relatively easy, I wouldn't want to tackle the job with out one, the front to rear pipes are very long. I managed it without dropping the sub frame by doing the passenger side pipe in two sections.

Hope this helps

If car has EML light on that's also a fail on its own. As any dash warning light is an mot fail now

If the light is on there will be codes. If your code reader isnt seeing them, that's the code reader, not that there arent any codes.

And testing the sensors are working and reading correctly is fairly easy if indeed they are the problem ( and quite possibly are )

If it's going to the workshop, they should be able to check all that fairly easily anyway

Sure it is, unless you get a dodgy MOT. That became part of the test from around March 2013 didn't it? Along with headlight washers on xenons etc. (I failed on a previous car for the headlight washers and the warning light)

Strangely, the engine management light on is not a fail. However if there is a problem that effects other aspects, that might cause a fail.

Trust me I own an MOT station and not all warning lights constitute a fail.
