AFAIK they were never type approved for towing, so it's a no go.

I might be mistaken but I think I noticed the Tourer had values in the stated towing capacity section on the V5, where my old one was blank. I'll double check later.

Mmmm..... I thought that might be the case.

I know nothing about Towing ? So if car is not type approved you cannot tow at all ?

Worse than that, it falls foul of C&U to even have a tow bar fitted.

I got around this on a previous car by not having the tow ball attached for most of the time, and saying it was a bike rack - though if I was caught towing a trailer, then they'd have me bang to rights. Never got stopped in 3 years though.

It's ridiculous isn't it - my brother in Oz uses his to very capably tow a 3 tonne camper trailer/vehicle carrier! In fact when I was last out there - you hardly notice the trailer!

Yes, but the hoops you need to jump through in the EC for full type approval would mean that we wouldn't get the cars here at all.

If I needed to tow, I'd have no problem with knowing the car was capable and fitting one for personal use (fog lamps would probably have to move), but there's no way that Preciousmetal can advise his customers at Elite of that. The towbar kits are available in Oz. wink

Sorry, and yes, Construction & Use. More of a VOSA problem than a police problem.

I was right it does have towing mass on the V5

So is this a DVLA mistake or can I fit a towbar?

Do you have to have in cab adjustable lights to have a tow bar?
