Whats the general rule of thumb regarding trans fluid changes? My R8 has got 51K on the clock, and the auto box can be a bit on the jerky side and a bit erratic too. Time for a fluid change? Cheers...

Before that, you could try removing the gearbox ECU fuse for 5 minutes, to reset the parameters of the gearbox.

Have a look at the colour and condition of the fluid. If its bright red and clear it will be ok, if it looks brownish, its overdue. Also make sure your levels are spot on and measured whilst engine is running and up to temp. Overfilling is as bad as being under.

As with all oil, its down to operating temperatures, especially with autos'. For every 5 deg C it runs over its design temp, will half the oil life.

As Ian says, you can also try zeroing the TCM learning.

We found running Transmax Z kept the auto's much cooler in the QLD heat, and also a transmission cooler. The only thing was that some said the box was a bit more slippery, but it worked for me with over 200 runs at the drags and daily driving before the clutch packs were burnt out. Daily driving it should be bullet proof.

No, it keeps the remap, and is only the bit where it learns how you drive, that is reset. smile
