'I have seen a 2004 Tamora advertised, and the owner states that TVR Power have told him that 'it may be a 4.0, or even a red rose, because TVR would put in whatever engine was available at the time'.
This sounds a bit unusual-are there any external distinguishing features between the different engines?'

I posted this question in the 'Speed 6 Engine' section-would anybody be able to help if I obtained the VIN?

Not too sure but i think factory 4.0 ltr engines had the cam cover painted red, not much of a help as a lot of owners have now gone the same route, and not only red. i would trust Dom on this one, but a session on the rollers should give you the answer.

Engine number should confirm if original surely? It will either say '36' or '40' in it I thought?

Drive it back to back with a known 3.6. Difference is obvious.

Engine no and Vin will say 3.6 probably. Build sheet would help if it was built as a special.

Pull a spark plug and measure the stroke.
