Hi all,

Looking to do my first track day in my T350 this year and have seen one at oulton park with a 105db limit. My car still has a CAT and what I believe to be a JP Back box (pic on my profile if that helps)

I know my car definately falls under the category of 'quite loud' has anyone else with a similar set up had it measured for db?

Cheers,

Andy

When I tried a few exhausts I was 104 at 4.5k at .5m at 45degrees from the exhaust tips. Thats was with cats in.

Hmmmmm so I may have a problem then.... Anyone measured with JP and cats still in?

Andy

Editid: just re-read Aubrey comment... 104db - very close then! How strict are they at oulton? And would they refund me if I failed?

I failed the Nurburgring noise test in my T350 with JP. Think the limit is 105 @ 3kRPM

Not sure about the ones on the link as they go over the pipe and you have a lip on your pipe. They do do inserts but I have only seen those drop dbs by a small amount.
Can you not put your original pipe back on.

Mine too sits at about 95bd at idle, and so daren't try a track day with any noise restrainsts as it would be a waste of money. Can't bring myself to chnage them as i love the noise, but get dissapointed not to be able to use the cars full potential

Jonesy on here was going to try some insert ones, don't know how he got on though

If it's close/borderline why don't you just recalibrate your rev counter a little so it's showing 3k when it's actually 4k? That way you'll get a pass.

Ahem I might have been talking to another TVR owner who might have done something similar at a track day recently whistle

Ive got a spare one if you need one for a track day. Also you could do as somebody has said and alter your revs so as it reads you are at 4500 when you are at 3000rpm

Except you will probably be black flagged when the drive by sensors pick you up (if there are any at Oulton) - static 105dB at 3k so isnt worth me turning up at any NE days.

Hi Andy

I've been going through exactly the same dilemma (albeit a different back box manufacturer - RG). I've been posting on the TVR Events forum (The TVR club track day thread) and had some useful suggestions and an offer of some silencers which may fit your pipes but basically seem to have ended up with getting hold of a standard back box as my option if I want to venture on track for the first time which I'm not sure I'll pursue at present as not that committed to getting on track.

Just thought I'd point you in the direction of the thread if of any help.

Just spotted this thread - see & hear my new slightly quieter version of JP sports exhaust here, but I guess only useful if you're about to invest in a new silencer.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

My earlier vid at Blyton sprint was with decat and normal sports JP silencer, but the 4.2 engine is probably slightly noisier in both than a 4.0/3.6.

Thanks all, esp aubrey9160 for the very kind loan offer..

Having a look on the Oulton Park website it seems I can go and just get measured on a day when they've got something going on so i'll do that before I book anything as it sounds like I will be reasonably close to (or over) the limit.

Will reassess after that!
