Hi all.Just sold my Chimaera looking to purchase a tuscan or tamora, just wanted ask if the tamora engines suffer the same failings as the tuscans or are they different in some way.The reason i'm asking is there is one advertised with 58.000 miles with no mention of any work done to the engine. Anything else i need to look out for apart from the normal TVR things.

Yes they do! Some say that the 3.6 engines fitted to tamoras, t350s and some Tuscans are less prone to going bang but I don't think there's much science in it! Mine needed a rebuild at 15k.

Other than that its pretty much standard tvr stuff

Maybe watch for bison trim as it doesn't wear we'll or at least hot as well as leather

What's the budget?

I'd try both, right back to the tuscan forum for me.........

The later engines used better quality steel components (not from India) and also incorporated a few refinements to the oil pathways(?) I believe, but not sure about that last point.

Still no guarantee, but after 50k+ I think it would be worth a thorough inspection, but I'm no engine expert by any means.

My 3.6 on my 54 plate was strong as an ox internally, what let me down was a failed half time bearing - there is a mod for this though few get it done as they don't know about it.

I agree with Alex the later 3.6 engines are more reliable than the 4.0 due to the shorter stroke.

Thanks for the replies guys food for thought, was thiking about a tuscan but private sellers are asking nearly as much as dealers. As i like the tamora thought i could get a newer one for the same money (about 14-15K) maybe i'm being too impatient and one will come along soon.

My 2003 T350 passed 50k miles today and is still running beautifully.
It seems to be down to luck.

I've been waiting for an excuse to upgrade the engine for 18 months and 10,000 miles...
Maybe its time to start ragging it while still cold.

Mine went bang (or clatter) after 16000 miles. It was all top end related so exactly the same as the Tuscan issue. Good excuse to fit a stage two RND head with bigger valves, hotter cams and all associated oil mods. Agree with other poster about the bison interior...its absolute rubbish. Getting a full re-trim in the summer. Then I'll be selling it

It's my beloved tamora that's for sale. Will be sad to see her go.

Any questions please don't hesitate to email me!

Mine is but, after a service yesterday and an MOT this morning, I took her out for a decent run - topless of course!

Just not sure that I want to let her go now.
