Secondary immobiliser

Hi all I am on my second Vantage(2006) and I am becoming increasingily paranoid about vehicle theft has anyone fitted had installed a secondary immobiliser? if anyone has gone down this route any recommendations advice will be greatly appreciated Thanks .

I don’t think the Ghost 2 is compatible with the VH Vantage - just the 2nd Century onwards.

Is the Ghost system well thought of ?

I understand (not that I am in the crime business) that the latest technique used by serious villains, is to cut a piece of the car, then access and interfere with the Canbus wiring system. Apparently mirroring Keyless Entry in your front garden is so yesterday.

Therefore perhaps a system to defeat this method is a good start.

An easy and cheap way to have a tracking system, is to simply hide a tracker tag in a car.
They are made by Samsung and Apple, often being used to track luggage, or wallets.
The tag picks up signals from other devices during any travelling, so you could follow your stolen car on a map as it travels to Nigeria.

Is your paranoia around the theft risk much greater than the actual risk itself? I'm not sure there is a huge theft market for our 2006 V8Vs, especially when you consider just how old the tech is inside them.
The mechanical key combined with the requirement for a steam powered computer to talk to any electronic systems on board means that the cars aren't often on the target list for any self respecting modern-day car thief equipped with a device to interrogate canbus systems.

Nope.

The tracker tag from apple uses a Bluetooth mesh network.

Park the car in a Faraday cage (shipping container) or underground car park and leave it to cool down is SOP.

And carry a GPS jammer and a Bluetooth jammer and a mobile phone jammer. All available for a few hundred £££ each.

Tag is a waste of money if the car is stolen by a so-called "professional" thief

Had a MetaTrack system fitted to my car.

Excellent product and it's now been in 5 of my cars.

If you're paranoid about theft, rather than an invisible tracker, wouldn't you be better off with a visible deterrent like one of these large yellow metal steering wheel cover/braces?

Exactly my thoughts, if concern is opportunists then the visible deterrent has to be the way to go.

The original immobiliser works just as well as it did 20 years ago , the tech is old, but It still meets the requirements of the insurance industry. I've been insuring a Vantage since 2007 and only in the first few years was a tracker mandatory when it was new and higher value.

Are you in a high risk area for theft ? does your insurer stipulate any additional security ? (usually the case if you have a high risk car with poor standard security)
