can anyone tell me -

Is it possible to get the engine plaque, ( inspection name and build number), restored ?

has anyone done this on their own ? How hard can it be !

The black paint on mine is all but worn away. Id like to improve its looks.

Any suggestions ??

Mine looked terrible, and the etching all flaky/patchy/rusty etc.

Attacked it with a liberal rub of Autosol metal polish and looks brand new.

Try it! smile

I don't know about the 4.3 plaques, but the one on my 2015 V8V is printed, and I think using Autosol would leave a nice, shiny aluminium rectangle with no text

Tony Hall, who used to be a regular poster on here, was always a good go to guy for plaques. I haven’t seen him post in here for ages though, but he’s in some of the AM Facebook groups and you can contact him by email through his website. I think he still has his rather nice Vanquish S in Ming Blue too! BRM.

It makes rather a mockery of the original concept though. 'Inspected by a random name'.

Which would get a better reaction at car shows, 'Final inspection by Keir Starmer' or 'Final inspection by Fernando Alonso' I wonder?

I was assuming you would buy a new badge with the same name as you already have, not just pick a random one smile

But just as some owners have custom sill badges, its your car you can stick whatever you like all on it "Final inspection by Paddington Bear" would be appropriate for some cars biggrin

I like it. It would certainly explain the marmalade sandwich in the glovebox.

NB On their list is 'Mick Molten'. Whilst he sounds like the bassist from a heavy metal band, his actual name is Mick Moten. (I know this because the plaque on my car suggests he was the man who said 'Yeah looks OK to me'...!)

If you inform AstonBits about the name on the plaque you want they will make sure you get that ... I did it for my 4.3 some years ago. They also mention on the AstonBits website AM didn't keep a record of who inspected which cars. There seems to have been some confusion over whether this is true or not but from what I can see, AstonBits are correct.

Does anyone need a link to Tony Hall, the Sill and Inspection plaque maker?
Best not to request that PH photo of TH with two aquaintances, at a car meet on Madeira Drive Brighton. How can we forget.

I think Tony Hall as Minglar says was Seymour Signs or something similar.
Obviously your plaque has more details on than normal with mention of the car model and the build number but I doubt either is an issue to get redone.

Yes you’re right alscar. It’s actually Signs By Seymour and Tony had “SBS” as part of his number plate which I think he still has on his Vanquish S. A few years ago he did a personalised engine slam panel plaque for me and a couple of personalised sill plaques too. I don’t know for sure if he still does them, but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t. Imho it’s definitely worth getting in touch with him. BRM.
