I've been pleasantly surprised at how little oil my 2014 V12VS uses. When I had the manual 2010 V12 I had to top up oil every 1 - 2k miles, not much but a little.

Similar milage in the V12VS and no oil usage at all.

Is this what other owners see?

Not put any in mine yet. Its a 2016 V12VS Roadster. Had 14k miles on it when I bought it 18 months ago, and around 22k miles now. I check the oil every few months or before any long trips and it hasn't needed any.

I was used to some oil consumption from my previous V8 Vantages, so when I got the V12 I bought the specific oil for it, and 18 months later the container is unopened. With my yearly mileage I doubt it will need any in between services.

Owned my V12VSM 9 years this Xmas from new! (Time flys!)

Never had to put any oil in it whatsoever, other than of course it has been annually serviced so had a full oil change at that time.

Thanks for the feedback…

I had my oil analysed at the last service , mainly due to catalytic converter worries.. came back with no observations.
I should add that there is no misfire detected either..

It’s now done about 22k miles and I’m very pleased with my last two years of ownership.. maybe I’m over cautious, but I think I’ll always be keeping a close eye on things :0)

11 years old this past October. Never had to top up.

Come to think of it, I cannot recall the last time I had to top up the oil in any car I've owned.

Modern engines are pretty good in this regard. I've never subscribed to the idea that you need to baby a new engine either. The first few km/mi are most important - lots of varying of revs, plenty of engine braking to help seat the rings.

When I bought my V12VSR back in 2015, I asked the dealer to put a 1L bottle of oil in the boot in case it needs topping up in between servicing. He just laughed, put the bottle in the boot as requested and told me I’d n’ever use it and he was right, I still have the unopened bottle ten years and 20,000 miles later.

After a year of ownership (2012 V12V) and no oil-related issues (1,000 miles or so), I restarted the engine after a fuel stop during a road trip, when I got a low oil level - add 1 litre of oil warning, which made me VERY nervous, given that I d only driven a few hundred miles since the last service, so if it was using oil, it was doing so at an alarming rate (or at a slower rate and it hadn t been properly filled at the service). I was parked on an upward-facing slope, so I wondered if that had anything to do with it. I checked the oil level, which seemed OK (although it was so clean, it was hard to read). I couldn t see any evidence of smoke from the exhaust or oil leaks under the car.
Fortunately, I had a spare 1 litre carton in the boot, so I put it in anyway (thinking that it was better to have slightly too much than too little), drove gingerly for a while until I got to another garage where I was able to buy 2 more 1 litre cartons, just in case. No further warnings appeared until a couple of days later, when (again, on restart after a fuel stop) I got a different warning: Oil level sensor fault . The oil level on the dipstick still seemed to be correct, so I started to think that the original low oil level warning was actually an oil level sensor issue. I got the same oil level sensor fault a couple more times on the same trip, and always after restarting the engine when already warm. The oil level was correct on both occasions.
So, I ve bought a new oil level sensor from an online supplier, which I ll have fitted at the next service and see what happens.
That s a long-winded way of saying that I don t think my car uses oil either!

Good to read it’s almost universal the V12 doesn’t drink oil. Mine doesn’t.

I was convinced some years ago I read that they have a tendency to drink a little oil and that is normal. Must have misremembered.

The engine gets used (miles and revs) but only when warmed up and the conditions are right. Then again, for many miles, it’s revving below 2k rpm in the high gears. Left to its own devises, it would go for an even higher gear, if available, some of the time. But the engine needs to be exercised and not laboured too… is my reasoning bandit

No, you don´t misremember: if you go back (many) years in this forum there were discussions that a certain oil consumption of the 5.9l V12 engine is just normal. Well known topic from other forums, too. Now, MAYBE, those were the older V12 engine variants and not the AM28? Just a guess. I am certainly not saying someone is "right" or "wrong" here; just an observation. Possible that personal experiences do differ.

Interesting! Thanks for confirming to me I’m not (yet) senile biggrin

I've not had to top up the oil in my current V12 nor previous Astons between services although i check regularly (probably once per month). They don't seem to use much at all.

Check your fuse box for water ingress. My old car had this and McGurks replaced it for a few hundred quid. I had the exact same messages after a fuel stop yet level and sensor were both fine.

V12VS 2014 now 22500 miles, had the car from 15k miles, and not a drop has been used (even with a bit ending up on the air filter! )
