Was at a party this afternoon and for some inexplicable reason the conversation turned to Astons... (possibly because of the one parked outside)

Anyway, someone said that a very rich chap in possibly Russia or China had bought up a huge number of DB9s and resold them cheap to crash the values because he didn't like Aston Martin for some reason. I can't see how a flood of cheap DB9s is going to bother the company, but how much of the story is true - is it partly bks or 100% bks?

Not today he wasn't... never met him before, but there do seem to be a lot of cheap DB9s around.

where are these cheap DB9s?? I'd buy one...

..but why would a car manufacturer care too much for the values of cars it once made a long time ago??

Either high or low, it matters not to their business of selling new cars (albeit AM Heritage has always made a profit remaking older Astons, but thats not he point)

Maybe Jazzy Jag is a Russian Chinese chap and still sitting on a warehouse of DB9s. It is all starting to make sense.

There were a load of Vantages from the 80s that came back from the middle east in dubious condition a few years ago. That may have pushed average values down.

But if you were in the market for a used DB9, my good friend Vladimir Wong may be able to help...

As cheap as £16K, according to my informant yesterday, who was going to buy one for £25K until the seller told him it was only worth £16K so couldn't sell it to him. That didn't make sense yesterday and it still doesn't...

TBH, I never heard of anyone specifically hoarding DB9s but there were numerous stories of shenanigans around the original flotation, to make the numbers look better than they were.

Stories of rows of cars with notices in the window saying "This car is the property of XXX(finance house)"
That probably counted as a sale, but the timings don't align with DB9.

I noticed he was absent from the GG article on Valhalla LTP. I guess the majority of posts were quite positive as indeed were the video reviews mentioned elsewhere, so perhaps for once he decided his oft-repeated tale of woe wasn’t appropriate this time? wink
