What kind of discounts?
Discussion
My family are in the motor trade..but in the 15k-75k range where its the norm now for the price to be the price.
What kind of discounts can i expect to squeeze from a AM dealer or an independent on a used AM in peoples experience?
I'm looking to buy for cash most likely a DBS Volante which are circa £125 to £160k dependent on age/spec/mileage.
Squeezing a 155k down to 150 or less would make my man math more appealing
Cheers for any input

Last time buying at a main dealer there was no movement on the sale price, however there was 20% more trade in allowance if I took their finance. Which I did then paid it off.
Ive bought 3 from main dealers and there was always something available to sweeten the deal, but its hard to quantify until you ask them on a particular car, how good a sales quarter they are having, any marketing incentives etc. On a previous car I got a free service and a better than book price trade in.

Just to add to the last reply it can also depend on how long they have had the car in stock and whether on SOR or not plus how good you are at negotiating.
MD’s will also work on a margin of £8k - £10k but you won’t know what they paid.
For the plate change just gone they will no doubt have got a used supply in and might have had to be extra generous on their trade ins.
I’ve only ever “ wasted “ money on new cars over the past 15 years or so other than my defenders which have both been used but not a penny off from the specialist Indy.
That said I’ve had extras fitted or free service etc.
That all said whether it’s tyres or service or warranty extension or just cash off or a combi of those I would dare to suggest that starting with £10k off in mind won’t be too offensive on a £155k car.

Thanks for the input guys!
Im early retired and not going to look at any finance options...current rates (9-10%) are nuts (I worked all my life doing IT for finance and insurance) and early settlement would swallow more than any other sweetener i think they'd lob for their fin commission.
I'm tracking how long some of the cars im interested in are listed for as indeed i think it will help with negotation if its been sat on the lot since before Christmas.
I don't have the funds available for another few weeks so will continue to track the age, cost, spec of everything on my trusty XL.

Don't forget that if you were to cancel within the cooling off period of usually 14 days then no interest would be payable and in taking it out you may well get some form of contribution ?Im early retired and not going to look at any finance options...current rates (9-10%) are nuts (I worked all my life doing IT for finance and insurance) and early settlement would swallow more than any other sweetener i think they'd lob for their fin commission.
Absolutely not saying or encouraging you to take finance and certainly not at those rates but just something to bear in mind.

The problem I have with buying Astons is that when I'm in front of the one I want, my negotiating skills evaporate...
Yep, that sounds like me.hah Id forgotten about the cooling off period! Not sure its worth the hassle to apply though even with a max credit score when i have no fixed income (nobody understands SIPPs!)
Ive seen 2 of the TAG Heur branded cars. I didnt think they were worth any extra $$$ and not a fan of black generally or dark astons in particular.
Though having seen Xenon grey in the flesh now it suits the DBS.
But mostly im now looking for a Volante which i think rules out the TAG cars. Took me a while to move to looking at volantes as i think the coupe looks a little better and ive never been a fan of cloth tops. But i cant fault the build quality of the convertible roofs.
My only worry now is i end up finding the experience of the journey finding the right car more exciting than the ownership.!!!!

Or take your wife with you. Last AM I bought I went to look at it with the wife. She walked into the showroom and stood next to the sales guy, infront of the car we had arranged to view, announcing 'its so much nicer than your current Aston you definately need to buy this one its lovely'. Not helpful and not to be repeated.
Im divorced...probably how i can afford the car..!!Maybe i can borrow one of my female friends who is 6'+ and very blonde...and ask her to stand in front of it with a...."well i preferred the black one at blah..de...blah..and it was cheaper..."

Do you lease your wife? When I was having a play in a V12VS and was trying to mentally make the man-maths work for my car plus £30k for something a year older and slightly higher mileage, the look I got from mine clearly said that whatever the mancalculator said, the result was wrong.Simpo Two said:
I just had a look at DBS Volantes on Autotrader. Unless you want black you could be in for a long wait...!
Yup its nuts how many are black....and almost all are black, grey or white. There are as many DBS again for sale that are not on AT at all. Ive learned to look in a lot of places to find the right car.
Im likely to buy a white or Xenon Grey car but in either event im 90% sure to colour PPF it as id like a bright colour, and you rarely see any AM for sale in these colours.
Ive been spending many hours this week trying to get a PPF the same colour as Storm Purple as i fell in love with this colour when i tried one out in a DB12.

My word, that's what I'd call a 'TVR colour'!I was looking for a Vanquish in certain colours and the months were ticking by. I considered buying the 'wrong' colour and wrapping it but it would always feel fake and you'd see the original colour in the engine bay etc.

Given Storm Purple was a relatively new colour from Q the number of DBS's available in that let alone Volantes will be negligible if any. There are as many DBS again for sale that are not on AT at all. Ive learned to look in a lot of places to find the right car.

It is a gorgeous colour.
You might try a company called Teckwrap if you haven't already as they seem to do a lot of close matches.
I had my R8 painted from the factory in Merlin Purple but Storm makes mine look a poor second.

Lol.If only leasing had been an option!

As you hope to save money and also having family in the motor trade, you must be perfectly placed to find an as new condition, used DBS Volante.
When I bought my Aston Martin, it was 2 years old, 8,000 miles, in as new condition and 40% below the original invoice price. And that was from an AM main dealer.
At the time of purchase I did not know that older AMs seem to have a base value, particularly when still in perfect condition, so have been surprise that my value loss over 14 years has only averaged £1,500 per year.
Compare that with an everyday car.
My car was considered a keeper from the day of purchase, so values are an irrelevance, but it is still satisfying to know.
Have I tempted you Marc?
Every Aston Martin is a wonderful car and provides great pleasure.
Go for it.
EDIT
Ref. your comment about cash purchase and another post about £20,000 off for credit.
I know nothing about credit, but seem to remember a poster describing making the aquisition with credit to obtain a significant discount, but soon afterwards paying off the credit in full.
However, I doubt even that technique could anywhere near match, avoiding the initial 2 years depreciation.
