Morning all

My 2008 db9 keep opening the sat nav screen and shows the message ‘insert disc’ but I am led to believe its an hdd model so no disc to insert.

The dealer who serviced it has told me it needs a new system (ie the unit under the rear seat in the volante).

I am wondering if anyone else has had this issue and managed to find a repair solution - or replaced with a salvage car unit and what is involved from a programming perspective if a used item were used?

Thanks in advance!

First I'd check the unit under the rear seat to make sure there's no disk slot.

If it doesn’t have a missing disc, perhaps try Cartronics - they have been excellent in the past at repairs for me

As far as I know the 2008 satnav was based on the Volvo RTI system, that used discs for maps and firmware updates

Your dealer is wrong. It does need a disc.

Just to make life more difficult, the cover to the satnav unit is secured with Allen bolts...

Ok, so problem resolved. The unit is indeed a dvd drive unit, and it turns out the disc wasn’t in it - and as this started happening after it went to a main dealer for servicing it makes me wonder ….

Anyway, can’t prove anything so i threw in a disc from a Volvo V50 I had lying around and everything is back up and working, I just need to find a second hand disc that I can put in it permanently!

Thanks for the help from everyone - I am hoping this will resolve the parasitic draw on the battery I have had.

Glad it was an easy fix.

So the problem was Wrong Advice:

1) 'My 2008 db9 keep opening the sat nav screen and shows the message insert disc but I am led to believe its an hdd model so no disc to insert.'

The car told you what was wrong; where did the HDD idea come from?

2) 'The dealer who serviced it has told me it needs a new system (ie the unit under the rear seat in the volante).'

How on earth can a dealer be so completely wrong about something so simple? Do they stand upright or use all fours?

A few weeks ago I threw away the old disk from my DB9 assuming it was worthless. However I'll grub about in the garage bin later and see if it's still there or whether the bin has been emptied. ETA - sorry, it's gone!
