I pull on the catch in the passenger's footwell, but I don't feel any positive engagement/clicking sound to tell me the bonnet opened successfully. And indeed, it didn't!
Is this a known issue, and how can it be fixed?

had the same prob on my last vantage. it turned out that the bonnet itself looked closed but in effect it wasnt. try pressing down firmly on the bonnet and attempt to lift the lip up. careful though too much pressure you may dent it wink

I tried that but it seemed closed indeed. It wouldn't lift up when pressing on the lip.
Will give it another shot

It might be worth enlisting the help of a glamorous assistant to either yank the lever in the footwell or manipulate the bonnet while you tug away.

Yes, I did watch a Carry On film the other day. Why do you ask?

Maybe I could use the jack, or a bottle opener?

When you pull the lever in the footwell is there any resistance? If there's no resistance then the cable is bust. Happened to my V8 and my V12. Garage fixed both under warranty.

There was no workaround available so I think you are out of luck.

There is resistance, I just don't the "popping" sound that confirms the bonnet opened

Hi all,

I know this is an old thread but I had this happen today.

I found an easy solution. I used a large can of WD40, as it has a long straw attached and I squeezed it past the finger latch in the centre of the bonnet and then between the bonnet and slam panel. The straw reached just beyond the bonnet badge. I gave it a good blast and it was powerful enough to reach the latch.

I left it for a few minutes and then I jiggled the lever, before jiggling the bonnet up and down. Suddenly the bonnet popped open.

I gave it all a good clean and lube and it’s now working perfectly.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

Kind regards,
John

Hey Simon,

Yeah me too smile
Will you be going to simply Aston in Aug? If so, it’ll be great to see you both there 👍

So not impossible then. Shame you don’t have back seats, lol.

It’ll be good to catch up. But if not, have birthday to your daughter and enjoy the day. 🙂

It happened to my car about a year ago, the nipple on the end of the bonnet open cable had dropped out of the bonnnet latch, the silicone grommet on the cable had deteriorated. Can you believe the slot in the latch is aligned vertically downwards?? You will need to remove the front grill and remove the bonnet open microswitch, you can then access the latch and flick it open with your finger.

To replace the cable you will need to remove the L/H front wheel and arch liner. The cable is held in place with cable ties with fir tree root fittings. I had to replace the bonnet open micro switch as mine broke during removal, it's quite cheap if you get the Ford/Jaguar equivalent. Te cable was cheap enough at AUD$40.00. I also made up a sleeve which secures the cable to the latch to prevent it from happening again.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Raoul

I used to have a convertible Vitara GV2000 for weekend fun and the nipple broke off the end of the kickdown cable.

Being buried tightly down the firewall it’s a sod to change so I just tightened a single electrical connector block onto the broken end and it was fine for years.

Not sure of the specific mechanics but it could be a handy thought while waiting for a proper repair on an Aston bonnet.
